How to bait woodchucks. i saw one in my yard last week im wondering if i can bait him and try to kill him with my Gamo Varmint Hunter .177 1000fps.. Anybody no how to bait them???

I have caught many woodchucks in havahart traps using strawberries..

I have had very good luck catching ground hogs in a Havaheart using ear corn ( dried type ). Last couple of weeks, have been using sweet corn on the cob.. Works for me.

I caught about 150 of them last spring and summer just between the eye and ear with my R-7........couldn't resist.

What range, centershot? What pellet. I don't use my R-7 on anything bigger than bird and only at relatively short range. My R-1 is the airgun of choice for bigger varmints.

I've shot them from 5-50yards, most around 25yards. The R1 would be a better choice, but currently the R-7 is all I own. I shot some with Beeman Bearcubs but most fell to the Crosman Premier Hollow Points. Lots of fun.

Nice! The R-7 is certainly a better choice for older kids and women. My wife can't cock the R1.

Besides the stock, what are the differences between the R-7 and the HW-30S?

Stock, Trigger and $100. I've never actually held a HW30 - but from what I've read they are close to the same thing as an R7 with a basic stock and non adjustable trigger.

center--what scope is that you have on that one?

I'm looking for an inexpensive alternative to the R-7 that's still accurate but can be cocked by a woman. I bought a Beeman RS2 with the intention of giving it to my sister for pest control in her garden but she can't cock it.

With two teenage boys, there is no way I am sending her my R-7.

The scope in the Pic. is a Bushnell 3.5x10x36 AO Banner. I have since switched to a 6X leapers. The Leapers is a great little scope for $60.

Best cheap shooters I have found are the RWS M34's. Not in the same league as the Beemans but still very serviceable. I'll probably get another in .22 for chucks next spring.

The RWS 34 has a cocking effort of 33 pounds versus 18 pounds for the R-7/HW-30s. I need an inexpensive spring gun with a cocking effort of less than 20 pounds.
