Just got back from Colorado and used them. Being able to know where the other(s) are is a very nice feature. I hunted some canyons with my partner who was tagged out waiting at the bottom to pick me up. It was nice to know how much farther I had to go. I like the idea of one less thing to pack, but don't forget the compass. Ken

I've a Garmin Rino, you can turn the radio off to conserve battery life. I had problems with it and Garmin wanted $75 bucks just to look at it.
I fixed it with a shim of cardboard.

Just an update... I'm a big fan of my Garmin Oregon now that I've had several weeks to us it in the field. I only use a few of the features regularly but it's been a really useful tool as I've been scouting some unfamiliar terrain. I even used it to navigate downtown Chicago while on a business trip recently.

There's good advice here on staying away from combo units. I'll just add that if a combo needs to be sent in for repair you also lose access to the functions that still work - the GPS fails so you also have to send in a perfectly good radio.
