Kenjs1,
It is good to know the 140 sierra will open readily on deer, the 140 core lokt is really too tough for deer at the modest velocity of factory ammo IMHO. Don't be quick to dismiss the .264 120 ballistic tip, it is tougher than many other ballistic tips and offers a very good blend of expansion and penetration in my experience.
Not long ago a fellow posted a really good comparison of lots of 6.5 bullets on this site. The 120 ballistic tip held up very well in comparison to many other bullets. I believe that they built this one a little tougher because nosler knew it would get pushed really fast in the 264 magnum.

forgot about that - good point on the 120 grain as I now remember seeing that somewhere too. I think the Remington Accutips are really Hornady SST's ????? Wonder if anyone can speculate on them. Guess it is moot now that I am handloading and can just get the noslers - keep forgetting

Quite a few years ago I had an A-bolt II in 260. It would shoot 95 gr. V-max's very well but not the Remington 140gr. Core-lokt's. As I recall Browning used a 1 in 11 twist in the 260 and I always wondered if that caused the mediocre accuracy with 140's. At any rate I do remember the 140 Rem. Core-lokts shot in the high 2600 fps range over the chronograph. I had my 15 year old buy a Remington, SS Model Seven in 260 while they were going for under $500-. He really likes it. We have been shooting 95 gr. V-max's and 120 gr. Barnes so far. I have to say I have enjoyed getting reacquainted with the round.

I had some accuracy inconsistency with mine at first. That can be even more frustrating than just plane always bad. I guessed that my stock was flexing and causing problems and apparently I was right because that thing is very consistent now. Funny how you learn things - I learned that stock design is as important as weight, and seems even more important than recoil pad when it comes to taming recoil. 260 has become my favorite round. Not much you can't do in USA with 90 to 160 grain bullets. I would like to try 120grain Noslers but I am getting one hole with 3 shots with the 140 Sierra's so think I will use them up before going elsewhere. I already called the combo "perfect" so why am I still thinking of trying other things???? we are a crazy lot around here at times aren't we?

I hated the original stock so much I bought a Mcmillan for him. It is even lighter now, nicer in the recoil department, and consistent. It is such a good combo that he really shouldn't need to buy another gun(grin)

I have to agree with 260Remguy.
If you are going to bring out an ideal youth deer cartridge, put it in some youth sized rifles, some reasonably nice and some inexpensive ones.
Offer it in some snazzy models with appropriate barrel length and contour that will appeal to Remington collectors and hunters who actually know what a .260 rifle should have for features.
If they are dropping the .257 from the Mountain Rifle after one try, they probably aren't smart enough to bring out a .260 MT, but I'll second the obvious platform for it.
Oh, by the way, there is a limited run of Model 7s in .260 with heavier contour 20-inch satin blue barrel, open sights, nice satin-finished walnut, black forend tip and grip cap, through the Premier Distributors....but it is not cataloged, advertised or on their web site.
I am eyeing a beautiful Ruger M-77 in .260 with Leuold Vari-X III for $500, that has been sitting on the rack all summer....

It's tough to sell a product people don't want That, IMO, is the bottom line regarding the 260 Rem and has nothing to do with Rem's marketing team which is pretty darn good.

Lee24- you described my A-bolt beautifully Really, wether or not you have a thing for or against Rugers you should have already bought that rifle.

Ya no joke I should send ya the money for it. I will however never buy a 260 as long as the 7mm-08 is available. I have never heard a good reason to convince me otherwise. I would however take that m77 with a VxIII on it for $500.

Remington's marketing team is so bad that they could screw up selling photographs of pretty, naked, women (ala Playboy) to teenaged boys on testosterone overload! I don't know who the VP of Marketing is for Remington, but his/her picture must appear under "Inept" in somebody's dictionary.
Jeff That may be true today, but the Remington ads of yesteryear still fling a craving on me!!! Even some of the new ones create desires for their products. I own 4 .260s, 3 Remingtons and 1 Ruger.

The 260's apparent lack of success is largely due to to things: (1) the average rifle owners facination with speed and power and (2) attempting to fill a niche that didn't exist. The 7/08 was already in the niche, with more choices of bullet and guns available. Just sold my Remy 260. Everything it did is done better with my Kimber Montana.

Actually, the finest of them all is the .270/.308, unless of course we consider that other fine wildcat the .29-08, the offspring of the B-29, or maybe the .288-08, the descendant of the .280 Ross, or perhaps....

JB When will we see a detailed write up in Handloader on this .29-08? Are reamers easier to find then for that old B-29 I`m always looking for something new that shoots flatter then the Ex and costs less.

J.B.,
How could you have made such a grevious error? Everybody knows the 276 Pederson clearly covered all this ground way before anything except the 270/300 savage or maybe the 6.5/303 Epps or perhaps the wonderful series of wildcats based on the vastly underestmated 6.5 Arisaka or maybe the 6.8/30 remington short rimless which everyone knows was really developed by a famous gun writer who tried to pattent it but was thwarted by the military/industrial complex. I only hope this sets the record straight.
