Steelhead,

You like cleaning windows so much, you got a job driving the bus! Probably drove Jeff O to the Polling Booths.

Thanks a [bleep] lot...

Great site, made even better now that Big Stick is gone.

Sounds like maybe Kute showed up. Someone must have left a pie cooling on the window ledge.......

Chances are your questions were asked because you wanted to know something .

Stick was cool, knew his stuff and if you jumped on him you had best be ready for him to jump back. If you acted like you knew more than you eventually proved you didn't you became fair game. Was not that hard to follow.

Another one.
He was always very helpful with questions and also returned PM's promptly.

There was only one Big Stick but we have quite a number of Big Stick "wannabee's." They sure come up way short.

The battle was fought on his terms- which is to say, a 7-08 (or .308), used as long-range hunting gun, with an Amax bullet. Which is sort of like debating which dirt bike is a better highway cruiser running racing fuel, but whatever. The terms of the debate were chosen by him.

Even granting him his 2700 fps, which I did, it was demonstrated that a .308 would do everything the 7-08 would do out to whatever it was he was saying... 700 yards I think. If memory served, the .308 drifted .4 of an inch more at that range in a 10 mph wind. 'Course it delivered a bunch more bullet when it got there... Point being, same damn thing. Pick one and go hunting.

Matt, I've owned 4-5 .308's and two 7-08's. I've handloaded for them all. I've shot them over my chrono, and I've pushed my 7-08's farther than common sense would dictate. I'm not saying 2700 fps is impossible; I'm sure it IS possible. But there's "possible" and then there's "sane", and we'll never know which he was espousing because he weaseled out and wouldn't say. I'm saying to make a claim that is WAY contrary to every loading manual out there(for that powder) and then refuse to back it up with even minimal load data is chickensh!t. And he knew it, and so did everyone watching.

By contrast, the gentleman who provided the .308 load that waxed TryMe's ass, MontanaMarine, provided all the details of the load so that it could be judged fairly for what it was. But then, Shane plays it on the level and Stick is a bullying idiot.

In short, Stick got his butt kicked fair and square in the broad daylight. I don't even think Rick tossed him this time; I think he slunk away in embarrassment. smile

The true sign of intelligence is based on the fact that your mind is still open to learn, rather than reaching the conclusion that you've already learned all there is and any new data would be contrary to predisposed notions.
Sometime in Junior High you must have reached the pinnacle and it's been an uphill battle for anyone else willing to waste their time bestowing anymore info into that thick skull of yours.

Deleted your other condescending BS...

Funny thing, Matt. You are describing what is wrong with STICK here. He's got "expert's syndrome". Thinks he knows it all.

Does he know that a very high-BC bullet driven to way above book speeds, makes a 7mm-08 look pretty good? Sure he does. Then again, so do many of us here, myself included. I own a couple, remember.

What he didn't apparantly know, and was unwilling to open his mind to, was that a bullet and load exists for .308 that runs right with, or exceeds, his pet 7-08 load. Since that would mean admitting he was wrong to claim that the 7-08 is superior, and invalidate many an internet pissin' match that he's started over how superior the 7-08 is, he was forced to deny, insult, weasel, babble, post pictures of fish and trees, and basically avoid any kind of real discussion- once he saw that he was screwed.

Par for the course for him and his pack.

Beyond that, for a guy to base his entire premise on one WAY over book load, and then refuse to even disclose what it is.... ain't no way to compare cartridges fairly; it makes no sense. You know that, he knows that, we all know that. Difference between you and me being- I don't have my head up his butt, so I can call him on his BS. You do have your head up his butt, so you attempt to just tear down anyone who dares show him the err of his ways. smile

(How's the weather in there? Brown?)

Or perhaps you, in your infinite, condescending wisdom, care to explain how Nosler... Speer... and Alliant (who makes the damn powder he's pimping) claim speeds in the mid-2500's from a 26" tube, while he's claiming a safe 2700 fps from a 22" tube? I'm all ears. Do tell.

The CENTER will hold.
