Decoy them in close. Then you could use 2-3/4" 20 ga. with #4 steel and IC choke. OH YEAH!! over decoys, my 20 gauge O/U is death top ducks and geese! Ii use 2 3/4"#4's sometimes, but also 3" #2's My son uses 12 gauge 2 3/4" steel 2's or 4's at 1550 FPS in a 870 pump with no problem at all, and my partner uses the same out of his 1100 Remington. I'll stick with my 20 gauge however! Cat

Thanks for the advice.
In fact I was using my sxs field shotgun, it is only a cylinder & 1/2. Maybe I should take my O/U when I have opportunities on such big birds (invector + removable choke tubes could allow me to get 3/4 and full choke). With steel , use an OPEN choke like IMPCYL, SKT1, or even CYL! MOD is as big as you want to get, and it geberally does not do as well as the open chokes because steel does not compress when you try to constrict it. On my 20 gauge i use IMPCYL or CYL for my first barrel.... Cat

I know, my invector + chokes are not supposed to be used over the 3/4 according to Browning's user handbook, and we commonly use to say that 1/2 should be the tightest choking to be used with steel.
As long as we are allowed to use Nickel Plated lead, I won't use steel nor ultra expansive Bizmuth.

We definitely have to develop specific skills so we would have lot of fun - and meat - with those birds. Thanks.

If you a good shot or can get them close, shoot them in the head with as heavy a load as possible. A #4 pellet through the brain will kill one stone dead. I have always found it easiest to accomplish this if you let them land, or put the sneak on them if they are already on the ground.
