Ya'll reckon? Damned straight they are exactly the same from the same dadgum production line.

Of course, I'm going just from memory.

55 grains of IMR4350 with 165s clocked at 2750 in a 24 incher. Fast enough so far, saves powder and my barrel.

I have 3 favorite 30-06 loads:

150s - 52/4064
165s - 57.5/IMR 4350
180s - 55/IMR 4350

60 grains of Rel 19 and a 168 Barnes TSX boattail...shoots well in my son's lefty Ruger M77 and shot VERY well in a Sako M995 I had last year...plan to try it in my Pre'64 M70 Fwt....

I have been using the same recipes as Dave. Tried something a little different this year. I bought a custom FN lightweight '06 last year. Had to tweak it a little - replaced the follower (it had a magnum follower)and my gunsmith kissed the chamber with a finish reamer (it was way too tight, never finished). I sighted it in with some Sierra Game King 165 HPs over 56 grains of H414. They'd been sitting on my shelf for several years. Shot .60 at 100 yards for 3 shots. Consistently. Sierra told me the 165 GK HP's were a tough bullet and to put it in the shoulder. I tried them on deer Monday for the first time. It was a neck shot or nothing on an 8 pt. at something over 100 yds. Entrance was .308 and the exit was about 2.5". He proceeded to roll half way down into the hollow. If anyone else has used the 165 GK HP on deer I'd like to know what your experiences were. My sample of 1 may just have been pure luck and I have more hunting to do. Rooster

W760/H414 (same powder) or 4350 behind a 168 TTSX or 168 TSX should hold MOA or better and will kill anything in lower 48,

They are close but manuals show different loads as top end

They are the same powder. What you are seeing for different charge weights would be the difference in lots (same powder though) or the differences in the pressures in the barrels tested.

I get the same velocity from a 22 1/2" barrel and a .308win using 46grains of Varget behind a 165grn SST. You might want to try a diffrent powder mate.

56.0 grains of H-414 (MAX LOAD) gives 2,899 from a 24-inch barrel with a 165-gr Sierra BTSP, at 48,700 CUP, in the older Hodgdon manual.

25 fps behind it is 50.5 gr of Varget.
70 fps behind it is 55.0 gr of W-760, 57.0 gr of IMR-4350 or H-4350.

These are all the book MAX LOADS.

How can folks get 20 pages on loading a 30-06 or a .308. both shoot about anything you can squeeze in them...

That's a fact.
They were figured out long ago.

I shoot 1/2 inch groups with the old 1917 loaded with 57 grains of IMR 4350 and the old style 165 grain solid base noslers.

I tried 12 loads for the 30-06 Saturday. I loaded 180 grain Barnes, 180 grain Nosler, and 180 grain Herter�s projectiles with 4 loads of IMR4350 each. The first one I shot (Noslers at book minimum powder charge) had 3 shots touching the bull�s-eye at 100 yards shooting off my elbows on the bench. The rest opened the groups to 2 � 4 inches. The faster I pushed them the wider the groups became. But I was delighted with the first load and loaded up the rest of the box of Noslers for future hunts.

Now what do I do with the remaining Barnes and Herter�s projectiles? Maybe I can swap them for Noslers?

They make good paperweights if you melt em down. I had a similar problem with my 06 in that I never got real good accuracy with 180's, but the 165's all shot from good to fantastic. Could be the 1-12 Hart I'm running though.

165 gr Sierra HPBT over 48.7 gr Varget and WLR primers. Well below max and very accurate in my rifle.

anybody using ramshot big game or magnum

Big game for 150's, Hunter for 180's

I am using 53.4 grains of Biggame with Hornady 150 BTSP. Shooting just under 1" but do not have a way to chrony. Took one deer this year dropped in tracks.

Only IMR powder are available in my area.

with some Nosler 165 gr Bal-Tip
Primer Fed 215 M
IMR4350 57.0gr
outside: +3 celsius
Rifle: Winchester 70, 22 inch barrel.
2731 fps, MOA 5 shot 0.850 inch
