Just bought one of these today NIB that was made in 1996. It has blued metal and birch stock with checkering. Paid $199 for it, which I didn't think was too bad since I don't think they make this model anymore. Also got to thinking about today's date, everyone that likes 10/22's should have bought one or something to upgrade one.

I bumped into a NIB stainless/birch 10/22 KRBI at Guns Unlimited in 01/08 that followed me home for $249.14. $199 was a steal.

Where do you live in NE? I live in Millard.

I live about 50 miles straight south of you in the country.

Rifle: Man, those early ones with the walnut stocks are beautiful. I'm envious, birch can't compete with that.

I saw one at Scheels one summer quite a few years ago, it had a Black & Gray Laminated International Stock, and Satin Gray Stainless barrel & receiver. Every thing I could have wanted in a Ruger 10/22.

I was happy that they were NOW making this model, and sure planned to get one. When Christmas rolled around and my wifey wanted to buy me a Christmas present ... We headed ZOOM to Scheels. But Alas, NO Ruger 10/22's of the kind in the store. There were three Scheels Stores in our area, so in panic I headed to all before they closed. Still no prize.

With minutes left I returned to the first store where I thought that I had seen the rifle. I talked with another salesman, and yes, he remembered having them but were sold out. "Don't they still make them?" I asked. He answered, "No, they were not cataloged, just some kind of a small production run."

Then he asked me to wait a minute and he disapeared for a long time. He reemerged carrying two long boxes, smiled and said, "Well what do know?" It WAS a Merry Christmas, I was happy, my wife was happy ... I think the salesman was happy too.

When he walked us to the door he said. "Were often suprised what we sometimes find back there ... so I figure it never hurts to look." I saw him a long time later and he remembered selling me the rifle.

He said, "I think you made a smart investmet on that purchase."
It is still NIB, I bought a plain one to shoot.

I got this one back in 1992 if I recall correctly. Laminated stock, stainless barrel. A WalMart special buy, for $167.
It is very accurate, and has killed a lot of squirrels out in the swamp.

Mannlicher,

I think I have the twin to yours except with the birch stock and not the laminated stock. I got it mostly because I heard they were discontinuing the International and I wanted a 10/22 anyhow - any excuse for a new gun. It has turned out to be a really good shooter and I have since added the stainless, laminated stock, bull-barreled version to the herd, too. It shoots better than the International . . .

BTW - $199 IS a steal for that rifle. . .

Walmart had an exclusive on this gun back in the early 1990s. They had originally come out with what looked like a standard stocked carbine that was the same stainless/black&gray laminated and I had bought one for about $175.00. This International came out and they wanted $250.00 for it and I just could not justify it. One day I was in Walmart and the International was being closed out for $150.00. I bought one and about five of my friends bought them also... None of us have sold them. I sold my standard stocked one to a friend.

Saw one for sale at the Allenstwon, Pa. gun show last weekend...the seller wanted $350.00 for it.

Those Walmart edition, Ruger 10/22 RSI, laminated/stainless rifles pictured here are exactly the same as the one I bought at Scheels in around 2004, or later.

I doubt that my rifle was from the same batch as the Walmart exclusives, that many years later. Scheels had several of them for quite a while. So, I'm curious as to what the deal is with them anyway?

I know I paid a stiffer price for mine than the guys here got their rifles for ... But I am sure glad I got it.

PW... I was told at the time that the standard stock and International stainless/black&gray laminated stocks were a Walmart exclusive. About that time Walmart stopped doing exclusives for some reason and closed these out. I know the International was $150.00 and I think the standard one was $135.00. They sold out in a few days.

I wonder if when Walmart closed these out were there others leftover at the factory or maybe some parts left over that were made into guns and sold off to certain distributors. My serial number is 242-61xxx so you can compare it to the one you bought...

Ruger has never cataloged a laminated mannlicher stocked 10/22 and the only rifles in that format that I know, or have heard, of are the Wal-Mart specials made in 1997/98. Ruger made a couple runs of them for Wal-Mart, as some of thse KRBIBBZ 10/22s have 240 prefix SNs and some have 242.

Thanks. I was wondering about the serial # range of the Walmart 10/22's.

I'm glad that I just have my rifle, and it's nothing more special than Walmarts ... but, it does "burn" a little bit that I paid a premium price to Scheel's for a great rifle that I could have bought from Walmart for a lot less.

I've gone to Walmart for years and was constantly in there, I've ordered Marlins from them that no one else in the area even stocked. I don't think any of those Walmart laminated/full stock/stainless 10/22's were ever distributed to the Fargo or Moorhead stores.

I don't see HOW I could of missed them.

For some reason, some Wal-Marts in our area had them and some didn't.

The 1st lot sold quickly, but the 2nd lot hung around long enough for Wal-Mart to sell that at discount prices. I think that I paid $250 for my 1st 1 and then $170 for the close-outs. I had 1 of them checkered by Ahlman's in Morristown, MN, and it came out really nice.

I also must have missed the first run of the International. All the WMs in this area had the second run of them but as I recall the guns we bought were before 1996. Will see if anyone has a receipt they can find.

I picked up a blue one at a gun show NIB around 1995 while in college and I'm pretty sure I paid less than $200 for it. I want to say $180. Of course he may have had it forever and wanted to get rid of it.

FWIW - I bought my stainless International in 2003 (maybe 2004? - can't find my receipt) and I recall the total cost to be in the $280 range.
