I just order two Pattern-Master choke tubes to use with Buckshot. One for my Remington 870 and one for my Super 90 Benelli. Have any of you shotgun varmint hunters tried the Pattern-Master ? Cabela's has them on sale for 69.99 and this is the cheapest of have seen this choke listed. Will post how they do with number 4 buck in 2&3/4 and 3 inch .

I use them duck and goose hunting - they work. DO NOT use a Patternmaster with the "BlackCloud" style of shot. You will end up with serious end of the barrel issues.

I'm not a fan. When Pattern Master chokes first came on scene they were cutting edge. They had a longer parallel section and wad catchers to retard the wads progress into the rear of the shot column. Factory flush mount chokes lack those features. However, Pattern Master just hasnt kept pace with choke technology. They only offer an improved modified constriction and that just isnt usually enough for the smaller shot like No. Four Buck, or T and BB-size shot. I know several names in the predator hunting industry that have discussed Pattern Master chokes with me and most werent satisfied. I wasnt with the one I had either. Hopefully you have better luck, please do keep us informed how well they work out for you.

I will post some target photos when i receive the chokes. I have my 870 Left Hand Slug Barrel which came from the factory with the rifled Rem-Choke which will be replaced with the Pattern-Master. I have replaced the Remington Sight with Kimber Tritium rear and front night sights. I have purchased two different number 4 buck loads. The cheaper 2&3/4 inch Estate 12 GA load and the expensive 3 inch Fed Premium Copper Plated 12 GA loads . I will find out how the cheaper loads perform compared to the super Premiums. I will be using this setup for calling at night.

MOGC: What is a choke tube that you can recommend for buckshot? I use a Mossberg 500 with the backbored, vented barrel.
Bring enough gun and know how to use it.

Here is a yote i took with my Benelli Super 90 with 3.5 inch Rem Hevi-Shot # 5 , Cabela's Hevi-Shot X-Full choke. It came into the Mouth Diaphragm Turkey Yelp. Shot about 20 yards. Needless to say he went right down.

Probably a slip of the typing key, I think Bea175 knows his guns.

I'm sure he does, I'm just making sure I do because I was looking at stocks and noticed one ad mentioning the Super90 and SBE as same. They sure look different to me, thought I might have missed something.
No disrepect intended.

Tom, I didn't mean to suggest that of you. I was just complimenting Bea175, and didn't think of it being taken any other way, sorry 'bout that to both of you. I'll shut up and step out of the way...

Bea175: I have an article reviewing the Patternmaster. If I recall, it was origianlly designed for buckshot. The results were remarkable. Going from memory, 00 buck was patterning 12" or less at 40 yards. The author tried some #4 buck and other combinations and concluded that the larger the shot the tighter the constriction.
I have used the Pattern Master several years on ducks with mixed results. Since the Patternmaster is not a choke, I suspect it shines best with buckshot, over bird shot.

Patternmaster + Buckshot = sucks
