Dont waste your money getting an overpriced boomstick from Christensen Arms (perhaps the most overrated gun builder ever).
Search out a quality gunsmith (several on this site) and tell them exactly what you are looking for and your end result will be far more satisfactory, a better gun at a better price.

Look into these guys (just to name a few, no particular order):

Kampfeld Customs

GA Precision

Patriot Arms (American Precision Arms)

Gordy Gritters

Jim Borden

Robert Gradous

They can all build you a hammer that will be 1000x's the rifle that Christensen Arms could ever build you!!!

TheShootist,

If you don't mind working long distance, you might try MOA in Grants Pass, OR. He is a quality smith with reasonable prices. (541) 474-6838 He works by apointment only.

Can you take a standard 1 MOA 30-06 (like a slightly tuned 700) with a good 3-9 and, shooting from real world field positions (over a pack, with a sling, etc.) hit a 12" pie plate everytime, the first time at 500 yards? If not, spend your money on ammo and trips to the field where you can learn this skill before wasting money on any custom rifle.

Far too many think technology is the solution...it's not

I can do it with this 06' M70 that has the advantage of the BOSS, being bedded and the trigger adjusted. Leupold Euro 3-9 w/German #4 in Talley mounts. Total invested about $1200.
Will shoot far better than this old fart for a price some people pony up for a synthetic stock.

Learn wind, camo, terrain, mirage and trigger control and shoot, shoot, shoot.

We laugh when we see the Tactical Rifle crowd show up on their ATVs wondering where the game is.

Dats kind of funny cause we normally laugh when we see people show up with mzl brakes and boss systems on guns. Guess there always something that makes us laugh...

Not to hijack, but 300MAG all those listed are great builders I'm sure, but you are overlooking a local smith from the Burgh, and not far from you, who has put a couple great shooters together for me. Dave Bruno, used to be off the TPK on 28, but has since moved to a farm in Dayton, Pa. Good BR man, who knows how to make them also. He along with many of his builds in the hands of others have won and placed in some of the big BR events.

heavywalker,

Since your requested informer has not responding, I will chime in. Many years ago I bought a 10/22. I took it to the funsmith and had him thread a couple inches of barrel. I took a 3/4" bolt about 3" long and drilled and tapped it to match the threads on the barrel. Then I parted off a little for a jam nut. I installed in leaving the hex on it for weight hanging off the front.

I fired a five shot group at fifty yards. Turned the bolt 1/2 turn. The group moved 3" up 3" right. I returned it to the orignial setting and the group returned to it original impact point. I turned it bolt 1/16 of a turn and noticed the group got larger. Turned it the other way 1/8 turn and the group got smaller. After fooling with it awhile I consistantly shoot 5/8" five shot groups at fofty yards with Yellow Jackets.

I had a custom rifle made by the local smith. He cooperates with my requests for foolishness. He put a 26" barrel with a 22" taper on my short fat seven. Long before the factorys were making short fat I had a 7mm-.378 Weatherby shortened to 2 1/4 with a 45 degree shoulder. It had the same case capacity as a 300 Weatherby. Anyway it was a tweo minute rifle. I could depend on eight inch groups from the bench at 400 yards.

I took it back to the funsmith and had him thread the barrel and install a muzzle brake with a jam nut. Within fifty rounds I had it shooting, at worst, 2" at 300 yards.

I started making my own brakes. My son-in-law asked me to put one on his 7 mag. It was a consistant 1 1/2 minute rifle. It took sixty to seventy rounds to dial it in. And now it will always hit the two pound propane can at 590 yards from the bench from a cold barrel. He dials the clicks back to 100 yards and fires 13/16"; always. And he does this with a Tasco 4-16.

BOSS stands for Ballistic Optimising Shooting System.

The BOSS was the greatest invention in years. Had they NEVER brought out the braked version (instant hearing aids), it would still be around. This rifle and my wife's BOSS 06' BAR will shoot 3 of anything into 1" or less without endless load workup.

I'm waiting for the "tactical" condom (LOL)

Now this is a funny one...

And if a gun won't shoot 3 in an inch or less it aint worthy of being around far as I'm concerned. Dang sure wouldn't have any poly choke looking things hanging on my rifles.

But, if they perk for you then powder river let er buck.
