My camera is 200 miles from me due to late nite and tired brain so pics are no possible at this time. In a pig hunt in Tennessee on Saturday 12 Dec I used my Dad's old Sauer cape Gun to kill a 200 Lb+ boar. One shot at 80 yards dropped him cold. If you European gents want to see a cool story look for VAnimrods post in the Hunters campfire on the "First Blood Drwn" thread. Towrds the end (at this time) he posted an account as told to him by our guide and I have to say it was GREAT!!!

CMG, if you read this post, I have a question for you. I used old RWS ammunition for the kill and it killed VERY well. Is there a major difference in bullet construction in the "traditional" loads for a 9,3x72R?? The bullet did NOT exit yet hammered that boar like a sledge hammer to the face.

Et, not to change the subject but I just took an 850 lb bison heifer with my Chapuis 9.3x74 with Norma Oryxs. They hammered through to the off-side, perfectly mushroomed. I am falling in love with that rifle.

but the x74R is a VERY different cartridge than the x72R. congrats on the bison hunt, by the way. it would be awesome to hunt bisons on day.

ET, Weidmansheil to that boar. I read the account of the campfire hunt and enjoyed it very much. The "traditional" load by RWS uses a 193gr. jacketed flat nose bullet of .364" diameter at appr. 2200 fps. There are no current factory loads to my knowledge, as the cartridge (undeserved, as you proved ) is not legal in Germany for anything but roe deer.

Weidmansdanke Carl. Did you happen to see my adventure as related to VAnimrod by Bill our Hillbilly guide?? The rifle performed flawlessly. It is a dream to handle and it comes to point faster than greased lightning. A Buscheflinte is one Helluva hunting rifle IMHO!!!

Great story Evil Twin!
Greetings All! This is my very first post and I'm happy to have found this forum! I can sympathize with "Just a Hunter's" comment from Mt! Hogs can be problematic! There are very transient right now. I have them literally in my backyard here in south central Texas. Shot a 225 lb. boar off my front porch last February with a K98 in std 8x57JS. Had to take my 11 year old Boxer to the vet end of May (as he still thinks he's 9 months old). He jumped the fence one night and got tangled up with another boar. He's okay. This mornings inspection of the ground shows that a good size one is back rooting up the bottom land right next to the house. Time to try one of my new Krag loads!

Welcome to the Campfire Kaywoodie! You get to buy the first round The boars we were hunting are Russians.,not feral. The impression I got when I saw the second boar 18" from my muzzles was a battletank with hooves. Impressive critters and I have already chowed down on some of the sausage I made out of mine and it is mmm mmmm GOODD! And no I do NOT want to see hogs of any description take hold here on my home territory.

but i've heard boars can be a real pain in the ass for farmers.

because i'm limited to six guns. and everybody needs a 12ga shotgun, a combination gun and a .22lr. so i don't have much room for fun guns.
a while back i was at a gunstore in the neighbor town and fondled a marlin xlr, and i absolutely loved it. so i might get one, after i have bought the more necessary guns.

Thanks for the welcome, Evil Twin. We've got some Russians here too! I've hunted them with muzzleloaders. I've been hunting hogs here for over 25 years. 95% of the time with either a .40 or .50 round ball. But my last ML hogs killed were with a smoothbore French flint fusil and a .595 RB. If you would have told me 25 years ago we'd have hogs on my place, I'd said you were crazy! But they appear to be here to stay. I was looking at the neighbors pasture tonight on the way home from town tonight! The hogs have really done a number on it! Here's a pic of the small boar I shot last February here on my place! Hope it comes out okay; http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r174/lt13demi/100_1278.jpgKaywoodie

More necessary guns?? The Marlin 45-70 is quite capable of long range shooting that would blow your mind and it carries the mail hard enough to kill just about any critter you can name in the Northern climes. Kaywoodie, nice pig! A Kar98K too! So ya like the frontstuffers do ya?? How do ya like this one??

Very nice rifle, ET!!!!!!! And very nice kit too! Here are my two favorites! Got rid of all my rifles and opted out for smoothies. Oldest son has my "Virginia" rifle. The bottom gun is the hog killer..... http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r174/lt13demi/100_0227.jpgKaywoodie

The EvilTwin has once again dragged an innocent over to the Darkside From clear across the Atlantic yet!! Kaywoodie, and GV, the details on my rifle: Custom by B Turner. Old style Lancaster rifle. On the muzzle crown are "x's and O's" that I have been told was the old Pennsylvania Deutsch hex for Hunter's Luck. It is 50 cal,L&R Classic lock(very quick lock time) tiger maple stock. It carries like a dream, shoots very well and I actually carried it for 23 out of 25 days I spent in the field this past big game season. The knife is a custom knife made for me by our own Wildswalker, my dear friend. It was blooded on my boar.
