I picked up a rough looking older Ruger #1A 7x57 from the fire a couple months ago. Finally got around to mounting a scope on it (Loopy 6x36) and I think I would be happier with irons or a peep site.
I don't like the stock flip up rear iron. Does anyone have pics of a custom or aftermarket setup or at least some recommendations?
Thanks

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum. I do tend to fit in well wherever I go in person. The campfire is the most outside exposure I get. No TV, no newspaper.

Thanks Brick, I guess the search feature trumps Google for good info.

There are also the express sights from the Boddington series to consider:

Brick and all,
Any idea where one would find the rear sight used on the Boddingtons? Or is it a matter of taking the rifle to a gunsmith and having them install a generic express sight and mill it to the proper height?

I'm pretty sure the Boddington rear sight is the same as comes on the 375 African Hawkeye. I took the one off my Hawkeye to see if it would fit on a No 1. No problemo.

Brick, Yeah, that is pretty much what I thought, was hoping to shortcut the process. I actually called Ruger a while back about the Boddington sight, they refered me to Lipsey's; when I called Lipsey's they thought I should call Ruger.

I went with an NECG sourdough on the front and a rear I found in a g'smiths junk box. This on my M77 Whelen but the same goes on a #1. Very clear sight picture, like the Bomar on my 1911. I believe the fixed rear blade on a CZ 527 carbine fits too.

Ok; that was painless> I will post some others. I bought this rifle about 10 years ago to take it to africa for a buffalo hunt. I was very dissappointed with the crappy factory sights and called Ruger to ask for alternatives. They referred me to a gunsmith someplace in the midwest. I sent him the rifle and he installed the sights, a better butt pad and worked the trigger. For the life of me, I can not remember his name, I do remember that the job cost me as much as the rifle. Not complaining here because he did it in record time and the workmanship was excellent, very nice guy. I got a shot just before sunset, at about 30 yards. The bullet broke both shoulders. Amazingly he stood up on his hind legs facing away from me. I then put another one on him (texas heart shot) and he was dead. The second bullet was recovered intact from the base of the skull. They were premium solids. Satanyogo.
