Very ironic in how this came to be, but I stumbled onto a pawn shop Ruger Compact. Of course it was a righty. But it was 308 and nice and, well, compact. Thought it would be a fantastic rifle for the up and coming kids, or my wife, who may be starting to hunt.

Where I now live, the brush is pretty thick in several spots. And the 338 Win Mag is probably in my Top 3 most favorite rounds. And with all of the semi-custom rifles I have that are backwards, I was thinking, "Wow, I have no dedicated, compact, short barreled brush guns". So had been day dreaming about that little Ruger. Thinking that Ruger is really starting to turn the corner on the LH market with the addition of both the 375 Ruger African that is backwards, as well as the new short action CRF lefties that are hitting the shelves now, that they may just put out a pair of Left Handed Compact Magnums. But I joked that there was no way in hell that would happen.

So I just kept day dreaming of a new rifle build. Lots of horsepower, quick handling, heavy bullets for close range bears and brush country deer. A good tree stand, thick cover rifle. A "beater" of sorts. Not a $2500 safe queen like some other rifles I own. But a meld of cobbled parts for a working man's rifle.

For grins I looked at the Ruger sight last night to drool over the Compact Magnums and check some ballistic gack on the 338.

In big bold letters at the bottom of the screen-

AVAILABLE IN LEFT HANDED FIRST QUARTER OF 2010

I will have one with income tax refund. And thinking it will be $600 or so, I will throw a 2.5-8, bed it, and hunt the piss out of it for a season.

Anyone else at all interested, or do the calibers/chamberings put you off?

Any other wonderful lefties coming out, or have leaked out pre-Shot Show?

I'd like one. Maybe 300RCM. Be nice if they were gonna be available in SS. Not likely since Ruger appears to have discontinued all SS LH models.

I really wish they hadn't gone and done that..

I haven't checked the Ruger web-site today, but when I checked yesterday, the left-hand stainless Hawkeye long action was still listed. Guess I had better check the web site now!

Just checked, and the stainless left-hand Hawkeye is still listed!

Don't really know what's up with Bud's?

I know most online ads are not the correct pictures. But the Ruger Compact Magnum is supposed to be a 20" tube with Williams open sights and weigh 6 3/4 lbs. Not 7 1/4.

I think it was Bud's also that had a .375 Ruger called a Blackhawk or similar. Essentially a standard Hawkeye, no sights, or barrel band, but in 375. May be worth some calls in the AM

In my experience with Buds I ordered a LH Hawkeye SS in 375 Ruger. Picture & description showed it without sights was quite pleased, when it showed up with open sights.

I would be suprised if the Ruger RCM was anthing but a 20" barrel and had open sights. Let us know?
Would also like to know what the 338 & 300 RCM handloaded velocitys are in the 20" barrel?

I was going off of what a dealer had told me. My bad...

Just went on to Ruger website and saw the same thing. A little disappointed though. I was hoping for them in standard calibers as well. Looking for a rifle for my oldest son, 11, who shoots lefty and one in 7-08 would have been just about perfect.

Here is Buds Reply to the 22" Pictured Rifle Ruger LH 338 RCM Blue Wood

(the gun should have a 20" barrel and iron sights. I am sorry for the picture and description.

left-hand stainless .358 would be my choice; I'd take one in blue, can't get either.

Only repeating what I read but a gent on the AR forum posted Ruger was discontining all stainless left hand rifles.
Didnt want to miss out so ordered two in 300 Win Mag, one will be turned into either a 416 Ruger or 416 Taylor.
These rifles still show up in inventory on the larger dealer web sites, but if the rumor is true don't wait to long.
