Any one wildcatted the 7.62 X 39 to .25 caliber. Trying to get 250 Savage performance in a Rem 799 or Mini Mauser. What would the 100 gr velocity potential be?

Without going to an expensive wildcat, you could use a 6mm PPC or 6mm BR cartridge.
You can find some Google hits for "25 PPC" and slightly the larger "25 BR."

KK, I have a complete conversion for a Mini-30 called the .25 Boomer. (At least that's what the Redding dies are labeled) I thought it'd be kind a neat play toy. So then, after I bought it, I had to buy a Mini-30... And then I made the mistake of shooting the donor... And you know how that goes... So I never installed the conversion. I have bbl, gas block, stock, dies, and formed brass... I knew I shouldn't have shot the donor... At this point, I don't know if I'll ever do it. Especially considering the current political climate... Perhaps I might some day do it on a bolt action. If you wish to see what it looks like, send me your snail mail addy and I'll send you a formed case... Grasshopper

I thought about it, but BCP beat me to it. 25 BR is said to be mucho excellente, and if there's already a 25 PPC, the brass is already in the ballpark. Rather do that than try to neck down regular 762 brass.

counds like a cool project.
i'm a quartebore nut, shoot 8 assorted .25 calibers currently.
Grasshopper, if its not too much trouble, if you measure case capacity of the .25boomer using something like H110 or some other ball powder to get an estimate of case volume, i'll do the same with the .25classic. (30herret necked to .25)
i expect they should be close, as the .25CL has no case taper to speak of. My 25classics are in contenders in a 15" pistol barrel & a 21" carbine, nice little round. popped a few deer with those.
sounds like the .25boomer would be a neat project for autos, and i'd guess it'll nip on the heels of the original .250savage power levels.

Sounds like a great project, I built a 25/204 Ruger a few years back and was able to get 250 Sav factory ballistics out of it in a 22" barrel. At 2.46" it is a little long for the 799. My 25-204 makes a real nice little deer rifle.
PTG can make a reamer for you and Hornady makes a custon set of die for a very reasonable price.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I shoot a 25 boomer in a 1895 spanish action with a 26 in barrel. It shoots the 75gr v-max about 3100fps.It has been killing out to 580-600 yards so far,and the v-maxs do a number on coyotes. I load 26.5grs of H-322and the same with TAC.I checked the powder space and to the junction of the neck and body is about 28grs of H-322.My b-in-l has a mini30 he had rechambered and re-barreled to the boomer,it is his go to coyote rifle. The brass is easy to form and I have used the small primered brass as well as others with 0 problems.Clymer has the reamer I think that is were I had mine made.It does not kick at all and seeing hits are no problem. Hope this helps.Good Luck

I've a reamer and have built a 270X39AI. It is a very accurate low recoiling chamber. It is an excellent kids chambering for their first hunting rifle. Butch
