I'm still wondering what kind of weather is the "right" kind for bears?

The kind where/when the snow pack isn't substantial. I find it hard to kill a sleeping bear.

The kind where clouds dont obscure the mountain side your trying to glass. Or the kind that doesnt blow you off the mountain side. Spring weather in Montana can be wet, dry, cold, warm, hot, snowing, sunshine, cloudy, foggy, well you get the idea.

Dober has taken some STUD bears for sure.

Aside, five years ago he and I saw an old blackie boar feeding on an elk carcass that Dober felt certain would make top ten or better all-time MT bears. Looked more like a grizz, and was a greasy, stinky mess covered in elk goo.

Since Mark's forgotten more about bears than most currently know I'll take his word for it laugh

Not really... I'm a better cook, and you can bounce quarters off my ass laugh

But yeah, I'm looking forward to it myself. I've got Travis and another 'Fire member for the best week up here, and its looking like an early spring unless Febuary gets nasty.

On the weather end of it... Seems like the most sightings come right about when the rivers are running clear still and have come up to about where they were the previous September. Once they get all blown out (muddy and bank full) they do tend to spread out more (and are tougher to sight)

Thats long been my dilemna in the spring.... Go try and shoot a bear, or drown a Double Bunny beadhead or streamers for the big funny looking Cuttthroats with the white edges on their fins. There's something about pissed off 6 pound trout on 4 wt hardware in the spring...

You hunt bears down by the river Dan? Down here they don't go anywhere near main waterways in the spring, but stay way up high instead.

Pat, that first pic looks a little chilly!

I'm up on the hi-line right now myself. Forgot how damn cold it gets up here. First couple days were rather...uh...'refreshing' with the breeze.
Glad it's warming up this week!
