I keep using my .280 Mountain Rifle so this one needs a new home. This Mountain Rifle is chambered in .257 Roberts and is in overall very good condition. This rifle does not have a J-lock on the bolt. I bought the rifle used a few years back and do not know the round count. I recently paid a local gunsmith to do a trigger job and it breaks cleanly somewhere between 2.5-3 lbs. The pictures should show the majority of the cosmetic flaws. *** THE LEUPOLD SCOPE PICTURED IS NOT INCLUDED ***Leupold Matte 1-piece base and gloss medium? rings will be included in price. Rifle will ship in a hard plastic gun case. $575 Shipped & Insured from my FFL to your FFL. USPS money order only please. Brand new RCBS dies and Winchester brass available for an additional $50 shipped. First "I'll take it!" with a follow up email gets it. Feel free to email or PM me with any questions. Thanks for looking! I honestly do not know if it is LA or SA. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than myself could answer this one. WFR

700 MRs in 257 Roberts are SAs. I have a couple of them and think that they might be the best regular production rifles in 257 Roberts ever made in the U.S.

Jeff I think I may agree with you. I've wanted one of these for a long time. If I didn't already have all the components to build one, I'd have already said the magic words.

This appears to be a short action, but there was a later run done for one of the distributers with a long action. I think that it might have been Lew Horton. I just thought that I would muddy the waters.
This rifle would be ideal for deer.

Just for fun, take a ruler and measure center to center between the front and rear action screws and post that length. That will satisfy anybody wondering about a LA vs. SA. A LA measures just under 7 1/2" and a SA will go almost exactly 6 1/2". Looking at the proportion of the floorplate in the photo I'll go out on a limb and say that's a short action. Looks like a really nice rifle in a great caliber/model combination - good thing I'm left handed and can resist temptations.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I remember Lew Horton doing a non-cataloged run of 700 BDLs in 257 Roberts, but those were short actions. I've never seen a long action 700 Mountain Rifle in 257 Roberts, only the 700 Classics. Other than the 700 Classics, all of the factory specs Remington 700s that I've seen were short actions, including the 722s and 725s.
