Hey everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has any idea as to what the weight is, to a remington 700 CDL Stainless Fluted.

I am considering one in .257 weatherby, for a carry rifle, and for the clear cuts. I would replace the stock if need be, to shed weight- but if there is a better option then I will consider it!

According to Remington it's a 7.375 average. My guess is the mag action is more.

Drop the wood stock for a McMillan Edge and you'll be giddy as a school girl with that setup.

FMP...I weighed one at work...IIRC it was 8.25 lbs...no scope..

Wow, that surprises me. That is pretty hefty.

I have used a 700 CDL SF in .257 Weatherby for the last 2 seasons. It is in a McMillan Classic with edge construction, the scope is a Swaro 6-18x50 in Talley lightweights. With Butler Creek covers, Jewell trigger and bedding from Hill Country it weighs 8 lb 1.2 oz.

Skane is correct - in that configuration with the Edge it will make you smile. The deer and occasional coyotes aren't as fond of it as I am .

I have a CDL SF in .257 wby with Talley LWs and a Zeiss Conquest 3.5x10. Have not shot it or weighed it yet as I am waiting on McMillian "Remington Hunter" Edge to arrive.

It does not feel all that heavy even with the wood. The long barrel is probably going to make it feel more cumbersome.

My CDL .264wm in an Alaskan Ti weighs 8lbs 2oz without the sling and bipod. That's a 30mm scope in Talley's. Before I sold the wood CDL stock I weighed it and seems like it was around 34oz, this Ti weighs 27oz, do the math. The Edge would drop you another 1/2 pound if it's worth the bucks to you, t'wernt to me.

Don't make it too light! I had a 5 lb 25-06 made years ago and discovered very quickly that weight can be your friend when it comes to shooting.

My numbers are coming out differently. I have a 270WSM in the CDL-SF, with lw tally rings and a 2.5-8 VXIII standard CLD wood stock, my scales says 7lbs - 10oz.

I had mine several years, I don't know if anything has changed.

8Lbs is okay with me.

I didn't want it to light, because they feel to whippy to me, especially when it comes time to squeeze a shot off at what ever it is I am hunting.

On the other hand, I didn't want a boat anchor like a mark v...

my .264 in that config is sub moa with handloads

I put together some loads for mine that were very accurate-sma with 130 NAB's. I was surprised at how well it shot and love the way it carries. I didn't load to max but to around 3000fps.

My wood stock was surprising light, I believe it was 33oz. Everything but the BM.

I've got two (well just sold one in November) in 260 Rem, both have 24" barrels. The one I kept weighed 6 lb 8 oz and the other weighted about 4 oz more. IMHO, it really depends on the piece of wood you get. If you get one, I will suggest a few things. Have it glass and Pillar bedded, free floated, crown touched up and trigger taken to your preferred weight (I like 2 lbs). The one I kept now belongs to my daughter but is keep at my house and with the load work up I did this time last year I discovered no less than 15 different loads that ran MOA and less. The TSX and TTSX really shined.

I have to agree with GSSP about the 260 liking the TSX, I have been shooting the Corbon loaded 120TSX it shoots sub moa in my CDL SF. Also have one in 300wsm have only been able to get around an inch with factory loads. On a side note took my longest shot to date with the 260 and the TSX did its job at 300yds he never took another step.

My dad's is currently back in Remington's posession due to only one lug contacting the action. I will say it did shoot quite a bit better after free-floating the barrel.

Does most of the weight on these things come from the stock?

What else can I do to lighten it up a bit?
