I have a .45-90 Sharps and a set of the RCBS Legacy dies.
Danged if I know what difference there might be. There's nothing very complex about a .45-90, so far as I can tell.
With my Sharps, I very seldom FL size anyhow. I've never used the RCBS seater die, as I use a Redding Competition seater.

With a levergun FL resizing will be a must I am afraid.

Wasn't suggesting that you wouldn't have to FL size for a lever gun. Just noting that a straight case like a .45-90 isn't any big deal as far as sizing goes. One thing that can be an issue is the area just in front of the rim. Sometimes if a case chambers tight, some adjustment has to be made like trimming a bit off the bottom of the die. Depends on the particular chamber and die.
Still, you won't know until you try it. you might be surprised.
Heck, I don't have any first hand experience with lever guns. Just saying that I've never had a fit problem with my single shots, and have found the .45-90 to be not at all fussy.

Thanks for the tips. Going to pick up a set of the RCBS Legacy dies. Don't understand the huge difference in price on the RCBS website.

You'd save a pile of cash to try a set of Lyman dies and at least as singleshots go, you lose nothing to the .45-90

Brent,
The RCBS Legacy dies are $40from JSC, Lyman are $43 from the same source. I am thinking the high dollar RCBS set is carbide which I don't need. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I thought the RCBS were much more expensive. Sounds like you had it all figured.

RCBS has 2 different sets which is what has me a bit confused. One said 19304 - 3 DIE STEEL SET 45-90-2.4" SHARPS STRAIGHT and the other 56562 - .45-90 WIN 3-DIE STEEL SET

I've never had a 45-90. Could you use 45-70 dies? I use 44 Spec. dies for .44 Mag...

Not sure...I have a set of 45/70 dies, but would buy a set of 45/90 dies anyway. Call me strange but I like a set for each rifle. Set them once and leave them.

Yes, you can use .45-70 dies, but obviously not for FL sizing. I use a Lyman neck die and a Redding Benchrest seater, both in .45-70. Both work fine for my .45-90.
Come to think about it, I can't rule out a .45-70 FL die, only because I've never tried it. Depending on tolerances all the way around, it might work. Who knows?

Paul, Keith has a lever action. Full length sizing is likely a necessity.

Yeah, I know. I acknowledged that, but hedged a bit as you never really know unless you try it.
I was just responding to Cole's question by saying that my .45-70 dies work fine for everything except FL sizing of .45-90 cases.
Elkhunter will probably be best served by a decent set of .45-90 dies, like was mentioned in earlier responses.
Last I checked, Buffalo Arms offers a special order Redding Competition seater for the .45-90, but it costs more than a regularly cataloged .45-70. I use the .45-70 and it works fine. Might depend on the press a guy has, and specifically the throat depth.

I am still wondering why RCBS wants 3 times the money for one set over another. May have to contact them to get the reason. I'll get a set of dies, but it might be a while.

The RCBS legacy dies have the third die, that is their version of the lyman M die. A most usefull thing to have as it can be used for both flaring the case mouth and powder compression. Depending on the load and bullet oft times can be done all at once. I just got a set of those for 38-55 from Cabela's 45$ and change.

I just knew someone would come up with that, but I figured it would be someone like Les.
