well F--- me! I have one of those bbl's being installed. I hope it shoots. There ain't no free lunch; so if it don't shoot, I guess my gunsmith will get some more business to install a lilja, pacnor, or the like. I'll hope for the best. I got it for a song so if I get burned, I'll learn a lesson.

To to top it off, one of the IDIOTS that I had some wicked words with at Montana Rifleman is now with McGowen barrels (last I looked anyways). The chances of a double [bleep] have increased greatly.

OTOH-- by reading all these posts its seems that they are consistently inconsistent. They told me to expect 6-8 weeks for delivery as they were running behind. I had my tube in less than 10 days. errr??? Early delivery is never a bad thing in my book smile.. Maybe everyone who has purchased their tubes over that big fire sale should post how they shoot once installed. Makes me curious how it turns out for all of us.

The last time that I looked, the $50 barrel blanks and $20 contouring fee was gone from their web site. I ordered 3 of the barrels in 12/09, figuring that 3 stainless barrels for $210 was pretty cheap if they work and not much $$ down the drain if they don't work. I knew that I was taking a chance, since I was buying a barrel for about the cost of basic reblue job. OTOH, I don't think that it is ever a good idea to buy an "iffy" barrel if you're paying a 'smith to do the metal work.

People I know have not had happy results;from the posts here, some have turned out OK.

Barrels are like everything else....if it seems too good or cheap to be true, you are running 50-50 for disapointment. It costs just as much for a good smith to install a great barrel as it does a cheap one.....saving on the barrel is a faustian bargain.

Pay the money, get a Krieger,Rock,Lilja etc.,have it installed by a good smith.Saves money in the long run.

Here is the note from Shane at Montana after he had a complaint about the way his barrel shoots.
"It seems to me that you are expecting an awful lot out of a "standard hunting style barrel". While our barrels usually shoot very well, we have never guaranteed any groupings, or toted ourselves as being a "benchrest barrel" company. I think that it is a little unfair to try to compare a $70.00 hunting style barrel, to a $600.00 Lilja benchrest shooting barrel. As with any barrel company, some barrels they produce are going to shoot better than others.

I'm sorry that this barrel isn't giving you competitive shooting groups. But I do think that your asking an awful lot out of this barrel."

I don't think Shane's words are doing him a whole lot of good, even if it might be unreasonable to expect the average $50 barrel to group as good as a higher quality barrel.

I don't think their barrels are bad, I think the company management is [bleep] and have zero trust in them. Kind of hard to purchase a product from folks like that.

The actions are kits in my opinion. They need a complete squaring[blueprint]. You can make a nice rifle with them if you expend the money and effort.
