Remington and Ruger make limited, non-cataloged, special runs for wholesalers. Grice in Clearfield, PA, has done a number of Remington special runs and Lipsey's in Alabama is currently doing limited Ruger run of 44 Special Blackhawks nad stainless 77 RSIs. If the wholesaler thinks that there is enough demand, it could be done.

I would be willing to sit down with a local wholesaler to ask about this issue. If I go to talk to the owner, what specs are we looking for?

700 LVSF in 223 with a 1 in 8" ROT?
Same in 22-250?
700 Mountain Guide stainless in 223, 22-250, 243, 257 Roberts, and ?

5-6 years ago, Remington made a SS LH. I bought several -- right before they discontinued them.

Last year Ruger made Hawkeyes in SS LH. I bought several -- right before they discontinued them.

Maybe 5-6 years from now, another company will make a run of LH SS but to be sure, they'll make one (and only one) run of 30-06 & 300 WM. wink

UtahLefty - it sounds like you are the perverbial kiss-of-death. If you buy it, it will be discontinued. How about announcing to the forum what you are going to purchase next so we can buy one BEFORE it is discontinued. smile

Thanks for jogging my memory, Jeff.
I almost bought one of those 'unlisted' M77s a few years back that was chambered to 264WM.
The deal breaker for me was that it had a 24" tube and I cannot see owning a 264 in anything less than a 26"bbl.

I'll try to keep that in mind -- but you'll probably have to remind me in 5 years when the next company actually makes something in LH.

Yep, me too.
Only 'mag' I have in 24" is my 325WSM Montana, and that seems like a good length in that cartridge/rifle.

My Husky 300 Win is a 24 incher.That rifle would make a good 264 with a 26 RKS tube.

That would make a VERY nice 264- fast, too!
Can you imagine kicking a 140gr 6.5mm partition out at 3200fps?
Talk about long range medicine...

dmsbandit,

I'm just wondering what you consider a "fair price" for a sporting rifle?

Jeff, great idea. Other 'hunting/shooting sites' do group buys. I vote for a LVSF in 260 with a 1 in 8" ROT too.

It depends on the gun I guess. I love my Marlin "X" guns, and they only cost $300+ tax. Marlin can't seem to make them fast enough and I have heard nothing bad from anyone about them. I just wish they would offer a carbine version and some more chamberings. I took my XS-7 308 to a local 'smith and had the barrel cut to 18.25" and recrowned for only $65. I'd love to be able to buy a factory XS-7 carbine for $400 or less. I could buy 2 "X" gun carbines for the price of one Remington model 7.

The gun that baffles me is my Remington 750 Synthetic carbine in 308. Why do I have to pay my 'smith $50 to fix the trigger on a $650 gun? If I'm paying that kind of money for any gun, the trigger sear should be ground straight and square and not at an angle. For $50, the Smith got a nice smooth 3.5 pound trigger without any creep out of the factory Remington trigger. Why can't Remington do that?

That gets to my original post. The arms and ammo makers need to stop trying to sell us new and different and just make the existing product better.

I'd love to have a nice synthetic stocked mountain rifle in 6.5x55. The Tikka is nice, but something about $50 3 round clips bothers me.

But Ruger is now, or did, make a All-Weather Hawkeye for Europe in 6.5x55, but they won't sell it here. WHY??? Many years ago I managed to get a Model 77MKII in 6.5x55 and I love it. That too was meant for the European market, but they were sold stateside back then, but they won't do it today. Again, WHY NOT????

ballistically the 260 is a dog at normal deer hunting ranges ie inside 350yards. so get off the 260 high horse, it will never sell, the reason it isn't offered is because IT DOESN'T sell. a 140 grain bullet at 2700 fps is very underwhelming. don't think your average joe is going to see that at 600 yards that 140 vld is stomping the standard 270 win bullet.

as to the 204 and 17 hmr, these were exactly what the shooting community wanted and have been a huge success, the 17 hmr is vastly more accurate on average than a 22 mag, its also much faster and flatter to shoot, its a 200 yard rimfire round, you would have to be an idiot to not see the benefit in that. The 204 launches bullets in excess of 4000 fps, it shoots faster and flatter than a 22-250, with less recoil and barrel heat. again how can you not see the benefit to that.

the one I think a toad was really laid on was the 338 federal, what a joke, that one in particular is a waste that noone wants, its just not zippy enough to shoot very flat and with mono metal bullets we have now days a 308 or 30-06 gets it done with a lighter flatter shooting bullet.

what I would like to see, is more standard rifles offered in 6.5-284 so us rifle loonies could enjoy, then another would be a 17 caliber based on the 204 ruger case, some guys are shooting 17's based on the 204 case with bullets in excess of 4300 fps, that is one flat shooting combo that does offer something standard offerings do not. another one is further develop the beltless ruger cases and make them in 7mm 270 and 6.5 offerings.

5sdad I guess that is why this country is getting it's clock
cleaned in so many ways, because off shore come over here ask people what they want and then ship said item to us. It started
with cars and then spread to every thing else. The people in the
deciding dept. of companies here still are not getting it. I would be willing to pay a premium to get a US made part if there
are enough people left in this country that have a good work ethic and know how to build things properly. Rant over Cheers NC
