does the 300 weatherby with the brake still kick like a mule?

i found one at a good price and thinking about buying it.

I have one kicks about like a mild 30-06 load, with the brake,great gun Which model? How good of a deal?

Mine doesn't. It's more like a .30-06, like highridge1 said.

I shoot a .300 wby in the Ultralight version w/o a brake and find the recoil very reasonable for a big magnum.
It has a nice pad and fits me well.
It would be the rifle I take if elk, moose or big bears were my target.
Those brakes are ear drum busters.

That said, I'd rather shoot a smaller rifle for deer/antelope.

I find myself sneaking my kid's 7mm-08 out of the safe to hunt deer when he's in school.


I have a new .257 wby that has real potential with a much more mild recoil than the .300 wby.

Love mine. I don't use the brake on mine either and don't feel like I've ever really needed it. Good thing too because the Accubrake is loud.

i need this rifle like i i need another hole in my head, but for 875-925 i don't think i can past it up.

are the brakes removeable? or are they fixed to the barrel?

I HAD a 30-378 Accumark with a brake. Came as standard issue with the "big bangers". I was amazed at how the brake tamed the recoil on that thing! I would imagine it would do wondrous things for the 300. Every time I shot my 30-378 the local air raid sirens went off!!! LOUD!!!

Mine was. Came with the brake and the thread protector. My gun store already had the rifle on the shelf when I bought it so I don't know if it's standard or if they had the rifle ordered with it.

+1. You will love the 257Roy for sure. And I am starting to get an itch for the 7mm08 also. These rounds are fun to shoot and easy on the shoulder.Plus they will do for 98% of what most of us will hunt. Hopefully a Ruger Hawkeye in 7mm08 is in my gun safe in a few years.

If you like the rifle and it is a good deal you should snap it up. My 300Roy was easy on the shoulder and one hell of a hunting round.I ended up trading it for a outboard motor but kind of miss it. Local gun shop has an Accumark in 340 that is calling my name and it is on for ~$1799 Canadian. I think the brakes are removable.

A halfway decent gunsmith or even a machinist can make a thread protector or cap pretty easily or cheaply. Glad you are going to ditch that damnable brake.

After hunting with several 300's including the 300 RUM for a few years I now consider the 300ROY the best of the bunch.

I've got its bigger cousin, an Accumark in .340 Weatherby. The brake makes a huge difference. Bench shooting, felt recoil with the brake is less than my Model 70 in 7mm Mag. Without the brake, bench shooting is not all that fun. I made the mistake of hunting with the brake on once. I about deafened myself when I touched off a round inside the rock outcropping I was hunting from.

The brake is removable and there is a thread protector to use when the brake is taken off. Point of impact changes considerably on my rifle if the brake is removed. It would be nice to use the brake for load development and practice. However, I have to remove the brake and shoot to verify my scope zero once I'm done.

I have owned Accumark's 30-378,340 weatherby,338-378,and many mark V's including 7mm weatherby,300 weatherby,378 weatherby,257 weatherby and none of them did I like the break. They add alot of thength to the rifle and the sound is hard on the ears. For just target shooting I could see the break being a decent thing.

I run a braked 30-378, and it does a fine job of taming recoil. On the open plains noise is not an issue. Get near any structure like rims, trees, etc within yards of the muzzle, and the ears will get some real abuse. It's also the the most accurate unit I own, fully capable of completely hiding 3 shots beneath a dime at 100 yds.
