I picked up a real nice 99EG in 250-3000 that had a stained stock. Bluing was real nice, decent case colours, just a stain in the stock by the butt plate. Only savage I have ever owned that I sold for less than I paid for it! Everything else has gone out the door for cost or a modest profit. So my recommendations for stained stocks is "run" don't waste your time. If it is shooter that you want and it is really, really cheap than maybe.

Agree in principle; Still trying to lighten the forestock. The buttstock is beautiful now. I bought the gun for the Alaskan/stith and as a "learner." As a newby I decided to take this one apart and reassemble for practice. Then I may sell it or not depending on how it turns out (scarred receiver on the left, so I will be working on that also). This one is for fun and education, but will certainly avoid stained stocks in the future unless masochistic tendencies supersede common sense!
