Gunwriter and hunter Ross Seyfried has always maintained that the Failsafe was the most perfect big game bullet ever made.
Every article he wrote it seemed he got his plug in for the FS and against the kerblowup (his term) NBT's.

I have read the articles by Ross. Think I will do some expansion tests and if they look good I will give them a try. I have about 5 full boxes of factory loads and just recently picked up a box of 50 tips for reloading in a purchase of an assorted batch of bullets here in the classifieds. They were suposed to be CT partition's but when they arrived they were the CT failsafe. I had not realized that Nosler was involved in the design and manufacture of these bullets, feel a bit better about them now.

Thanks again for the input!

The FS was definitely a complex and labor intensive bullet to make.

I'd love to have squirreled away several boxes when they were still available.

I found the 230gr FS in 338WM to be accurate (3/4" 3 shot) in my rifle (Ruger MKII 77 SS). Shot a 189 6/8 Canada moose, one shot in the lungs, moose took about 3 steps, wobbled and fell over. One 3 point elk at long range. Wind drift caused bullet to drift to the rear, drilled elk through both femurs which put elk down. When it tried to get back up, drilled it between the shoulders, when I approached, I shot it twice more. Complete penetration on all shots, but they seemed little bigger than caliber. Shot another moose at about 80 yds. Had tracked it for about 8klicks. I shot it in the chest, it turned and shot it through the left rear ham, up through the full paunch, through the lungs, broke the right front shoulder. As the critter was very close to escaping into thick aspen, I plunked it again. Found the Bullet that went lengthwise through the moose, it was in the shoulder after having been caught by the hide.

Very deep penetrating, inconsistent expansion?
