I drink Booker's at 120+ proof and George T. Stagg at 140+ proof with no ice or freezer chill. Whisk(e)y is smooth or not in and of itself. If the flavor profile of one is too intense then try another.
The "smoothness" folks associate with chilling the whisk(e)y is really just lack of sensation due to numbing the palate, dumbing down the flavor so to speak.
C'mon guys! Am I surrounded by a bunch of candy asses here?

Hell I put Coke and ice in my bourbon
Here, Here. I'll raise a toast to that.
My preference is Crown and coke or Jack and coke.
Snobnesss be damned. I just try and catch a good buzz. A few straight shots added for good measure too.
Buzz catching and appreciating good whisk(e)y are two different things.
For buzz catching give me a half decent $20 blended Scotch and some soda on the rocks. Or a cold gin and tonic on a hot day.
That's a different ball game than putting ice in Van Winkle Lot B bourbon, which I would consider a crime.
Scotch is where I draw the line. I appreciate a fine scotch enough to not pollute it. A little ice is OK but that's about it. Lower grade blended, I'll pass.

I can be as redecked as any other guy, but I do have an air of sophistication.
I've been called a commonsewer most of my life! As opposed to a connoisseur.
