I am thinking of loading up some 150 Partitions in my .30-06. It'll mostly be used for Texas meat deer and hogs, but could be used for a trophy if the opportunity arises. I want a bullet that opens up and causes damages, but not so much as to ruin a lot of meat. How would the Partition perform for these tasks? Thanks.

Excellent performance on deer, a friend uses em on blacktails and hogs over here with no complaints whatsoever.

I think it would be perfect!!

It is roughly equivalent to the 130gr .277 which is my favorite deer bullet. I get holes on both sides with massive internal damage.

I use the 150 Partition in my 308 Steyer at about 2700ft/sec. It is pure death on caribou and has great hitting/ expanding and penetrating action. Kills very well and is very consistent expanding well on 100 pound calves and penetrating completely 400 pound bulls.

Grand choice.

If you use a heavier bullet such as 180 grain in the 30-06, with the slower muzzle velocity, I think you'll find less meat damage. Try and keep your shots to the rib cage for less damage.

I used to shoot 150 Partitions, 30-06, for hunting at in TX(Menard Co.), but switched years ago to the 165 Ballistic Tip. Shoots a lot more accurate and really whops the heck out of them. Have since stuck with them for all my deer hunting where ever I happen to be in the States. The BT really causes a lot of internal damage, and always penetrates. Just don't hit the off shoulder with one though. I have had one shot kills with that load from 30-460 yards.

A fantasitic bullet. I load them in my 308's and my 06's. I now load 180gr in my 06's as I have a few of them and a few 308's.

Here in Idaho, I know some who hunt with this very load for elk and they say it break far shoulders without trouble.

I don't think you need to push it very fast either.

I used one of my handloaded 210 grain Partition bullets in my pre-'64 Model 70 "Alaskan" (26" barrel) in .338 Win. Mag. to make a one-shot "bang/flop" kill on a large bull moose @ about 110 yards. The Indian guide estimated it at 1500 lbs with a 5-ft. antler spread.

The bullet expanded perfectly, made an excellent wound channel, stopped just under the skin on the off-side shoulder and maintained 71+% of its original weight (I still have the bullet).

How could bullet performance have been better?!?

I think you'll be very pleased with the bullet performance of the 150 grain Nosler Partition in your .30/06.

I've killed a-bunch of Texas whitetails with a 6.5x55 with a 140gr Partition. Never even recovered any jacket fragments. I don't think you'll regret using the 150's in your 06.

Why not just use a 165g interlock? Less money, less meat damage and close to the same penatration.

Push those 150's along with 51 gr. of 4895 or 52 gr. of 4064 and you'll more than likely be pleased
with the results.

I don't see why you don't use the 200 Partition. You'd get less meat damage and deeper. (I guess you don't need this)
Here's some charts that compare the two.

I shoot the 200 grain and the 180 grain partitions. The heavier of the two is in my .30-06 Ackley, the lighter is in my wildcat .300 mag. Muzzle velocity for the 200 is 2500 FPS and for the 180 it's 3200. I don't see any difference in meat damage for either bullet on deer sized game. In fact a couple of the smallest deer I've killed were with the magnum at 100 yards or less (my wife was using the 06 at the time) and I didn't lose any more meat than I've seen with any other round and less than many, including my buddy's .243.

As to the cost of the bullet. Hunting is not a poor man's activity for the most part. Even if you're keeping your costs as low as possible the difference between "cheap" and premium bullets is so small it's insignificant. You can make up the difference with the money under your sofa cushions and what goes through your washer and dryer in your pants pockets.

Any and all of the bullets mentioned will do fine; the missing link is how they will shoot in your rifle. I recently worked up a 150gr bullet load for a good buddy's 30-06 ADL.

I bought 7 different bullet types, tried 3 different powders and compared magnum versus standard primers. It was a bust, nothing I could load for that particular old rifle would outshoot the cheapest off-the-shelf Federals. They went into 7/8" 5 shot groups every time at 100 yd.

Go figure!

I loaded the '06 with 150 Partitions and some 3031 powder for my wife and daughters this year. I called them pink bullets because they recoil so light. But did they ever work on deer, and accurate as well. My wife shot a nice buck at just under 200 yards it swapped sides and she shot it again from the opposite side. Two exit wounds, no entrance wounds. Exit wounds were just about an inch and a half in diameter. The bullet entered the first exit wound and exited the first entrance wound. (That's like an inch and a half group, in the field, at two hundred yards.) Anyone want shooting lessons from my wife???

But seriously, those cute little pink bullets worked and put two nice Northern Ontario whitetails in the freezer. Next year they will kill a moose, Lord willing.

I've used the 150 Partition and IMR4320 powder to take a truck load of deer with the 30-06. The 150 Partition will give you all the penetration you will need for even big bodied deer.
