It's Back!!!

Brown truck pulled in this evening. Same wood stock (so much for the AAA) added a few dings! Nice 20" matte finished barrel with sights. Test target with a 1 1/2" group, I presume with the iron sights. First thing I did was chamber some factry rounds, no problems.

So all in all Ruger fixed it in a reasonable amount of time. smile Tomorrow off to the range. Lots of boolits and powders to try. Will write a range report.

Let us know. If yours is anything like mine, it may take a few sessions to settle in. You going to shoot the 220s or 225s?

I am going to start with 200 gr speers and work my way up. Have lots of boolits from different mfg. all the way up to 300 grains. (ouch)

Good news...glad to hear it. I'd try some 180's and 185's, just for the fun of it, too.

I've had the best events with 200 gr Hornady Interlocks, but it's not a huge number of critters, so I won't pretend it's highly meaningful... whistle.

Put about 30 rounds through it today. The factory 225's are really accurate in this rifle with the first two groups around 2 inches and then after giving it a good JB scrubbing right at 1" for the last two 3 shot groups with this load. Next up 200 speers with 58 gr R15...1 1/2-2 and then some 200 BT about the same. Wind and angle of the sun (into the scope) was getting bitchy so called it a day. Back at it tomorrow. Trigger is heavy but crisp.

Recoil is brisk but not at all uncomfortable. Have a 3.5X10 Burris fullfield on it now, which is probably more scope than needed but good for load development. Tight patches feel really smooth through this barrel and it cleans up pretty easy.

All in all pretty happy with this rifle. I think I will eventually bed the tang and lug with steel bed. Perhaps full length bed the barrel channel as well.

Get a trigger spring from ernierthegunsmith.com. Night and day difference on my 338 Fed Hawkeye.

I thought you might like those factory 225s. My rifle likes them and they certainly do the job on everything I've shot with them to date, including a book-class bear.

The same thing happened to me!
I ordered a left hand .338 RCM compact magnum from my dealer. I actually handed him a copy of the spec sheet downloaded from the Ruger website. When it arrived, it was the 22'' plain barrel model. I asked Ruger the same questions about putting iron sights on it or swapping it for a new RCM off the shelf, and got basically the same answers. They told me they couldn't put irons on because they don't have a custom shop.

Anyway, I hope mine comes back like Leftycarbon's.

Quick question- Is your LOP 13" or 13.5"?

Grote,

Just noticed your post. About 3 weeks to get it back. Did yours have any chambering issues?

To answer your question re: LOP mine is 13 inches.

Welcome to the fire.

Ahh haaa .. another collector's item for the Ruger Collectors to drool over! I bought a Ruger in years past that differed from its catalog specs.
