. Traditional lawn tactor types, only complaint is the safety switch you have to push to back up with the pto engaged. pull the 2 wires off the back of the rio switch and put a jumper between them. problem solved!

The hydro trannys are great. I had a 420 that lasted 28 years of hard service, then bought a 720 with hydro... I just reajusted the switch so that the reverse petal won't hit the rio switch on my 720.

I've had a 42" JD for the past 11 years with zero problems. I bought one with the Kohler engine and it's been bulletproof. I wouldn't have a power "anything" with a Briggs engine.

I've got a Simplicity with the hydro drive and it works great and I don't have a level yard. I'm on my forth season with it. Tuesday I mowed my BIL's yard with his Cub Cadet and I found the pedal arrangement more difficult to use than my Simplicity when backing up. It may have been a familiarity thing though. My mower has an override for reverse operation when mowing. Just pull up the PTO switch and momentarily turn the overide switch.

. Traditional lawn tactor types, only complaint is the safety switch you have to push to back up with the pto engaged. My Craftsman has an override built into the ignition switch. After you start it, turn the key left 1 notch and it will override the reverse safety switch. The override is set until you need to shut it off. They met OSHA's rules but made it very easy for the user.

I have a 1986 John Deere 430 diesel that is hydro and after all the 1000's of acres of grass it has cut there have been zero problems with the hydro or the Yanmar 3 cylinder diesel engine.
