Well, if a guy can't read, he may as well put O'Connor to good use one way or the other............ Casey I can read but fiction ain't my gig, if it were I'd be pushing Jesus like others push the 270.

Hey now, that's a pic of another (perfectly 'legal')outing.
That's back on the Rez and involved a lever action 22lr at about 50-75 yards. Impressive shooting and it wasn't me.....(laughin')

The only thing more complicated than religion is trying to AI or put a belt on a 25 cal..........especially when you already have the exceptionally efficient and simple 270 Winchester...... Jeez, where you been all these years....? Casey

Incognito never hurts.
The 270 grouse made a fine meal for my dad and I that night out in the hills. Shot placement is key, refer to Scott's pic....(grin)

I'm a certifiable 6.5 slut having run most of them at one time or another, but even I must admit that the .270 does make a hell of a lot of sense. I just bought a .270 to run as my loaner/ back up, but I'm still moving forward with my 6.5x55 build. If I started with a .270 I may have never found my true love the 6.5x55 and that would have been a shame!

If it were true I'd still own all three, but alas it ain't. The 270 is the answer to a question never asked. Poor Scott.....imbued with the burden of all this knowledge at such a young age Don't get hyper on me now....said in fun!

One learns much moving throughout the country and spending 26+ years in the military.
Unlike many that slam stuff they haven't ever used, I only comment on what I have used.

Scott,I know nothing about turrets and have no interest in them for my BG hunting..... I have gotten along very nicely without them...besides, we ain't talking about turrets....are we? ..but if a guy thinks there is a substantial difference between a 6.5,270, or 7mm bullets of similar weight and construction on game,I would suggest his powers of observation are a bit tilted,or he has an agenda......likely both.

Can get just about any rifle in 270, very hard to find them in 280. If one sucks so bad and the other is so great, shouldn't that fact be switched around? I have nothing against the 280 but you just can't find the damn thing anywhere.
In all reality, do you think the 280 equals a dead animal and a 270 doesn't? Don't worry about the little things.
Should I ever customize my current 270 (and start handloading) I might switch to a 280. But for a factory rifle with factory ammo, 270 for me. Say what you want, but it will kill [bleep]. All that matters.

In the pursuit of this game I've had the 260, 6.5-06, 264Win, 270Win, 270Wby, 7-08, 7X57, 280, 280AI, 7Rem, 7Wby and 7STW at least. After all this, my favourite rifle? A 270WCF. It's backup? Another 270WCF.
Of all the above, I tried hardest to love the 280AI. But all it does it equal 270 Win velocities with 10 more grains of bullet weight. Which in the hunting fields means absolutely nothing.
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

You're absolutely right n2.
For nearly all big game hunting purposes the old, unsexy, .270 Winchester works like a charm. works fine if you can't locate a suitable 280 Rem or 30-06.....:-)

Sure am glad they make so many different cartridges, that way everyone can have what they prefer.

+1 I can say I had a love for the 270, and still respect it, but the way to a 270 'Improved' is in the 7/08. I shot 139/140s at 2900-2960 in TWO 21" factory 700 tubes w/Varget. All I needed. It just works, and in a short action, and if Ole Jack were here today, his wife Eleanor likely would have retired her 7x57 for a 7/08 in a lighter yet trimmer M70 SA FWT, and Ole Jack might have realized what today's powders and bullets can do in the 7/08. No slam on the 270, but to me it yields little if any advantage when comparing what is MOST commonly shot, 130-140 gr. bullets over a 7/08 in a std. length tube of say 22"....(not comparing M7's 18.5/20 inchers. That said, I just LOVE what my 260 and 6.5x55s do with a 130 NAB running a sedate 2780 mv (current load w/IMR4350, when it runs out future loads w/H4350 should yield 50-75 or more). .488 BC gives me all I need to reach out for what I do, and it kicks a tad less than a 7/08 w/140. Not much, but less, all the while giving my last kill, DRT....or DOA at 250 paces. Last year I just let my 95 grain BT loaded 6mm BR drop my 2 deer. Who NEEDS a 270 when lesser rounds will Get R Done? LOL. In all seriousness, 270 owners need not rush out and trade in their guns, they will keep doing what they have for decades.

Bob, be careful, don't upset the old sage....(grin) That right there is funny Regarding the 270, I've only owned two but my next rifle will be a 270. Can't fathom a better all-around Montana rifle. I can't comment on the 6.5's as I've never owned one of any kind and have no plans to. I know several guys than run them (mostly 6.5-08's and 6.5-06's) for everything with no problems, but I've never seen the reason for one over a 270 which is more widely available and has a successful 75 year track record. To paraphrase Phil Shoemaker, "those who voice a problem with a properly loaded 270 are unconsciously criticizing their own marksmanship."
