It's not chiggers,Les. I've had chiggers and these aren't it. Plus, it's 2 on my belly, one up my right armpit and 3 on my right thigh. If it were chiggers, a bunch more would have got in through the openings, I think.

I think it happened while I sat for 15 minutes in the dry creek bed letting my son and Chase try to drop down on a 32 inch axis. While I sat, I think the little bastards just snuck in through my safari shirt. Should have sprayed down my clothes.

Bob,

I've had chiggers all over my body too. I got them on my back and head from leaning up against a tree with some overhanging bushes.

Give them an opening and they can get anywhere on you not just the traditional leg areas.

Only other thing is that they are tick areas. I pulled a tick off me the day after right next to my naval and the area is itching like a son of a gun still.

Or it simply could have been one of the 2,00 other bug species out there waiting for an opportunity.

Bobby pulled two off of him but he freaks on stuff like that so he got them before they really set in. I didn't have any ticks on me so maybe it is chiggers. I know some flying little black fly looking things were getting swatted by me so maybe a few got by me. Funny things is I never felt the bite.

I'm just one of those guys who needs to spray down, both my body with Off or the like and my clothes with that Premethrin crap. Hate soaking myself in poisons but having to scratch my boys in a courtroom seems a bit worse so spray down it is.

And finally, Virginia is now getting the weather we had in Texas. Early for us but we have to be near 90 with a high humidity today. Sweated a good bit walking across the street to court in my monkey suit.

Pat,

I got a crap load of bites too. Even on my arms, how in the hell do you get chigger bites on your arms?? Chiggers usually like dark places like sock areas etc.

I got a couple of chigger bites, and I tuck my pants cuffs into my boots before lacing in an attempt to avoid them. I saw one crawling up Dave's rifle barrel when we were in a truck riding around.

The best way to avoid them is to move to a place with a cold climate. smile

Bob;

They lay eggs under your skin, and the larvae do come out like tiny little maggots.

Two choices:

1) Scrub the affected areas and WELL above, below, and around them 'til you're raw, and then douse with straight bleach or turpentine; or,

2) Go get the affected areas, and WELL around them hot waxed, but have them leave the wax on extra long to suffocate the buggers.

Or, wait for everything to hatch, and start the cycle over...

Bob,

A simple remedy for me for chiggers since I was a kid. Take the back of your pocket knife and scratch the hell out of them. Do it until the bites slightly start to ooze. This not only feels very good but will cause a scab to form in the proceeding day(s). After this really good itch with the back of your knife, the itching will go away and it will scab over and they will go away.
