Would like to see pics of old hunting trucks others have had over the years.

My first hunting truck was a 1947 Ford 3/4 stake side, flathead 6 cylinder with 4 speed transmission. It had 48,000 miles when purchased from original owner in 1970. Sold it in 1986.

while not as old as that red 'un, I am still driving my 1988 Toyota 4Runner. laugh
Last month, drove it from Florida to Virginia and back. Spent a week driving mountain roads and trails.

Great trucks.

If the old 47' would have had 4WD I most likely would still own it. Mud and snow Armstrong's on the rear with chains did not always get me out of trouble.

I lost the pics of my truck, but it was a 76 Ford F-100 with full time 4 wheel drive and a 360 for power. That thing went anywhere I pointed it.

I had a 76 with a 390, full time 4x. gas hog, but you could have some fun with it.

Surprised a few pretty boys at stop lights every now and again too.

Here is mine, although not the best of shots. At a friend's cabin about ten miles from Stanley, Idaho. Rear end is facing the Sawtooth Mountains, on one of my elk hunts.

Bought it new in 1975, Ford F250 4x4, 360 V8 engine, steel Gem Top shell, with only 94,440 miles today. Just use it for outdoor stuff such as hunting, fishing, camping, etc.

Just keeps purring along so it works for me.

'76 GMC Suburban. 454, posi rear end. I've only had her for about 8 years, but could bore you to death with anecdotes. Like the time my positive battery cable rubbed on the tranny coolant line unbeknownst to me and arced a hole through it just as I crested the mountain going past Morenci, AZ on my way to chase elk up a little further north. blush Some accomodating locals picked me up and ran be back to town to pick up some hose and clamps.

Not the easiest thing to heave a deer up into, but at least I get there in style.grin

Hey Billgoat, I like your suburban! I have one similar, it is a '79 Chev 3/4 ton, but I swapped in 1 ton axles (Dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear with Detroit and 4.56s). Oh, and a slight lift to allow running the 11.00x16" radial Michelin XZL military tires....

Thanks guys. Wow, Ken, your suburban looks like everything mine wished it could be! Most of my buddies tell me to get rid of the thing, but I can't do it. I own it, and it runs. Yes, I'm a heartbeat away from several dozen things that could go wrong, several probably catastrophic. But she's never let me down, and within the next year I'll finally have the shop and hopefully enough tools to take of her right and make her a little more of what she could be. And besides, I doubt I'd get anything for it if I did try to sell. I need to add that my 8 year old son would kill me, he's got this crazy notion that when he can reach the pedals he's stealing her from me.

I bought her from a buddy in central Oregon when I was living in SW MT, drove her all over the Bitterroots, then back to Ohio, to SC, to Ohio, to SE AZ, and allover down there too. I did treat her to a trailer ride back up to here from AZ though. I'd never show pics of what's under the hood though, my hobnobbery while functional, ain't anything to brag about.
