I'll be using elk this Fall. Who here has used one on elk and what bullets performed well for you....or poorly for that matter. Thanks.

I have. I've taken 3 elk with mine the last two years. First two with 140 Partitions, last one with 120 TTSXs. Probably a little more meat damage with the Partitions, all bullets completely penetrated. The TTSX was a little weird in that I got no reaction at all to the first shot, which broke the fore shoulder. And that bullet was doing 3500 fps. The other two showed obvious reactions to being hit by the Partitions. Sample of 3 for whatever that's worth.

I've only shot one with the 264, and its been awile. I was shooting 140 Barnes XLC's. One broadside shot to the lungs, and a follow up quartering away. It worked well.
That bullet is no longer available, so I'd look at 130 tsx or one of the many bonded type bullets available.
FWIW, I dont elk hunt with the 264 anymore, and its loaded with 139 scenars...But I'd still poke an elk with the sceanars...

i've used or watched others use the 140 Core-Lokt, 140 Nosler Partition, and the 130 Barnes TSX. one of the Core-Lokts shed it's core, but i'd use the others again.
that said, i have some 130 grain Scirroco II bullets coming to try this fall.

Toad,
Did you see complete penetration with the TSX and the Partition?

i have recovered one partition that took out a shoulder and angled back to the opposite hip. i have not recovered a TSX from an elk yet, but i haven't tried to skewer an elk through the shoulder and opposite hip with one like the partition attempted.
i used to try to avoid the big bones with the Partitions, but with the TSX, i'll make an attempt to punch some bone.

One of my local friends has shot a pile of elk with the .264 and the 129 Hornady Interlock at ranges out to 500+. Every darn ones of them died pronto.

SU35,
Thanks for the note. I actually never went anywhere, but for some reason one day I was unable to logon as Slidellkid. Tried to fix it for some time but finally started anew with the screenname of 264guy. One day, I could not logon with that name and during my attempts to get back on I asked for a new password and they sent me a password for Slidellkid. I figured it wouldn't work as the ones I had received before when attempting to get on with that screenname would not work, but low and behold, it worked and now I am back as Slidellkid again...go figure.
Thanks for all the replies. I've had a love affair with my 264 for 26 years now and really can't afford to pick up a larger caliber at the moment, so your replies are giving me lots of confidence.
Dan
