Anyone used this bullet for big game? I'm tempted to kill my bull with this bullet in my new .260. They say .571 bc. Compared to the 123gr scenars I'm shooting in it now I'm pretty sure I can get 3000fps with it.

2990fps right now with 123 scenars through a 24" Rock 1-9" 5R with 44.0grs H4350. Easy bolt lift, round primers.

It works real well on big game, sort of like a Nosler AccuBond that opens to a little wider front, and retains a little more weight.

Thanks, Are the bc's a little inflated?....571 seems a bit high.

I guess I'll find out when I shoot them.

scenar,

I'll be really curious to hear what you end up at with the 130's.

I've great results with the 130 Swift S2 in the 260 and 6.5-284. It has become my go to hunting bullet for both cartridges.

In shooting it out to 1000 yards I've found the BC to be correct if not even better, it has great hang time.

Shooting the Swift into wet newsprint at 200 yd impact velocities the Swift S2's will out penetrate the Nosler 130 AB with a little wider CS. I suspect it opens up differently.

No doubt it will slam an elk, even at distance.

In the 260 I tried just about every powder to get them to shoot, the S2 can be finicky, then I tried H4350 45.2g for 2,900 fps for an accuracy load,
22" barrel. Lapua 243 brass necked up. Rem primer.

I have complete confidence in it.

SU,

Great info! Thanks and congrats on a dandy mule deer.

I'm going to give them a go...the rifle I just had put together really shoots and the barrel seems fast. How close to the lands are you starting them? and what is your COAL?

Results of three shots at this granite rock at 390 meters with my .260 shooting 123gr scenars a few days ago. Prone from a bipod with a slight tail wind..

scenarshooter,

Sounds like SU35 answered your question on the BC. I never did test any at longer ranges, because while the 130 Scirocco II's shot pretty well in my 6.5-06, they didn't shoot nearly as well as Berger VLD's.

Swift changed the heating process on the Scirocco II's to make them a little tougher than the original Sciroccos. From everything I've seen they'll work really well on elk.

Nice buck, SU35!

I like your rifle, I like it a lot!

Knowing your ability and seeing your rifle, elk could easily be on the menu.
I don't know why it wouldn't perform any different than a 270/130.

I'm 10k off the lands and coal is 2.820.

How is your 260's recoil compared to your 308?
Any other differences?

I agree with your comparison to the .270 shooting 130's.

My little .308 is within a few ounces of what the .260 is weight wise so its easy to run them head to head. Component wise they are put together with a lot of the same...stocks, barrels, scopes, and rings are the same. The .260 is only a bit heavier because of the bottom metal and the barrel having a smaller hole in it. The Templar action on the .260 is probably a bit heavier than the the Remington is on the .308 also, but not much.

Recoil was much more managable with the .260, especially when I was shooting prone.

I plan on doing a write up on both rifles, head to head.

Thanks for the intel! Looking forward to putting together those Scirocco's!

Good stuff here. Has me thinking a 260 Rem might be fun to try! Regarding Sciroccos, I've only shot them in 338 Cal, but found they were very finicky regarding seating depth and were a tad bit slower than other bullets of similar weight once I hit pressure. Very long bearing surface causing higher pressure? I don't know. I only include that here so maybe someone else can explain it to me. Once I found the right seating depth they really shot well though. They made a swing from not good at all to the tightest groups. Very tough bullet too.

You know if you do that, you'll have to change your user name to " Sciroccoshooter".....not to mention that's really hard to spell.

Along with a fairly long bearing surface, Sciroccos also have pure copper jackets, softer than gilding metal. The bonding process also tends to soften the jacket a little. The softer jacket increases friction.

Guy here shot an elk w/a Creedmoor using a 120 TSX at 502 LRF yds. Shot placement.

Scenar...I'd use a 260 or Swede on large game with good shot presentation at modest ranges.....under 400 and better under 3.

Good luck this season and do post your results.

That SH link is a running joke here.

The shooters 685 lb cow is in reality an elk calf that would be lucky to go 200 lbs.

Glad I wasn't the only one to look at that and think calf vice cow.
