Sorry man, I've been on a RL15 and Varget kick for so long it wasn't a bright light on my radar. The conversation jogged my memory. grin

I don't shoot long range like you guys so I don't sweat the speed too much. My deer load this year, at least one of them, will be 47.3 grains of Varget in Lapua cases with a 150 grain Hornady flat base. Inside of 350 yards or so it should be murder on the whitetail.

That exact load, 47.3 Varget and Lapua brass, with the 155 A-Max, printed 1/2 MOA at 300 out of my match gun.

Will certainly kill deer.

OK. had the pleasure of spending the entire day at the range yesterday. The last couple of days brought high wind, for us anyway, and cool temps. In fact at 6:30 yesterday morn. there was lite frost on some rooftops. The day turned out fine, lite wind vairable, from the N.W. and sunny, temp at mid day in the low 70s`.
An Appleseed program was in progress when I arrived, so watched the instructors teach 10 new shooters how to become riflemen. I found the program fun and interesting. The instructors did a fine job.
There were some vet. shooters there as well, so at noon we broke away, set up some targets in the pits, did a bit of rapid from 300 with ARs` and generally just had fun. Wasn`t till late afternoon, that I got to try my load at 1K.
47grns of 4320, Lapua brass and the 155 A-Max. I had seated some Fed Match primers, and some WLR primers. I`d only brought some 15 rounds with me, more that enough to test and fool with. I shot from prone with sling. Ran in 35 MOE and 5 MOA of wind. I was short on wind, and had to add 2.5 more. I got in the 10 ring, and the load stayed there, with both primers. In fact my last 5 shots fell into the x ring with the WLR.
Pat came up and confermed all shots were indeed super, with a nice sharp "Snap".
So it looks like I`m all set with this bullet.
End of report!!!

Good report, and I'm glad you found a load.

Yesterday at the 1000 yard match, the flags were horizontal and I had in 3.0 MOA of windage.

CGPAUL, What kind of jump do you have on that 155 AMax? I just bought some to try in my 12 FTR, but between gardening, rain, and building an ice shack, have not had time to start. Sounds like you have saved me a lot of work. Great post. Thanks, Luke

Luke, I don`t remember the COL, and I`m not home to measure it. I do remember the base of the bullet is at the case neck/shoulder junction. It gives the powder charge, 4320, very mild compression.
YMMV, so seat as needed, and work up your charge.

Good Luck.

Amen to that... I"d rather deal with a higher but more predictable wind any day...

That BS of one shot being 3 moa left, then down the middle and then 3 moa right... can really nail ya..... and if you get out of sync totally can miss ya....

My son was coming up this wkend for a walk in the woods for birds, then we we planned to shot his 06 he`d worked some loads up for. Some 165grn SSTs. I had saved some milk jugs to shoot.
I`d loaded some of the 150 Amaxs for my 06, and had cronied them at 2900fps.
Tell you what, at 300 yrds the bullet blew the snot out of thoes jugs! I mean they came apart and with a very audible WHOP. Almost the same results with the 165s

Don`t know if I`d use them on B game tho..

Anybody working with Laupua Scenar's? BC is listed at .505, which is higher than Horn A-max 178's. Seems like an even better be to stay supersonic at 1K.

I used 155 Amax for F-Class this past weekend but had some problems. Could be because they were just on the edge of transonic and some dipped below. I had a nice string of V-bull and then sudden big elevation drop.

Could also have been the nut behind the trigger smile (very new to the sport)

Yeah 1K. I chronied the loads in the summer 2750-2800 fps. Marginal I believe. Not really sure I trust my chrony either.

The temp the day I was shooting 1K was quite a bit lower than in the heat of summer. I had to had several more clicks of elevation than mid summer too.

Definitely need some load development. If we can ever get some Fed210's primers up here again I get to that.

Figured the higher BC of the Scenars would help quite a bit too.
