I've had both in the past and thinking about getting either one in a T3.

I'll use it for elk and mule deer. I'm leaning towards the 7mm just because of recoil.

I've shot several hogs with both calibers and the 300 seems to be the more explosive of the two. Granted, I've been shooting Hornady SST's in 165 grain out of the 300, and Inter-locks out of the 7Mag. I'll have to try the SST's in the 7Mag to make a fair comparison. Using the 300 on hogs has shown me damage that I have never personally witnessed with any other gun/caliber.

I have hunted with both and had hunters shooting both.

Here is my take. The 7RM and 300WM are pretty close to each other when shooting similar bullets. Compare a 150 to 150, so on and so on.
Where the 7mm has an advantage is in speed shoot a 120 TSX and the speed is awesome with good killing power.
Where the 300WM has the advantage is when shooting heavier bullets. 180, 200, 220, the 300WM takes the cake.
They both serve a purpose and both kill. With new bullets, I think the BC on the 7mm bullets is hard to beat. KRP pointed this out. A 168 .284 berger has a BC of .617 I think where as a .308 berger to come close would need a 210 grain I believe. Speed is lost in the 30 cal where the 7mm could still be pushed at 2900 maybe even over 3000 fps.
I just bought my second 7RM and picking it up tomorrow. I decided if I was going to get a 30 cal, I would up to a 300wby or 300RUM where the heavier bullets would be pushed faster and make it worth the upgrade.
The buck in the Kaibab my client killed with his his 7RM shooting 150NBT dropped just as good and just as dead as the buck RickBin killed in Mexico with me shooting a ,(i think)200 grain NAB. Both were shot at 400 yards.
If your 7RM can shoot 168 bergers, I don't think a similar 300WM can touch it based on BC. And I am a hard core 30 cal fan.
I am no expert, but that is my experience with both.
