I tried the e-tips when they first came out and gave up, tried them with a .1,.05 jump on the lands and close at .010, with a couple of powders and different loads. Some people were having luck with a long jump (.1), but not me. I thought I found a ~1" load, but I tried it a second time with clean cold bore and it was ~3" the second time . ugggh.
I can print Partitions at 1", so I just didn't see the point to continue wasting powder. I think I still have a box/part of a box of 30 cal 180's

I've tried two different E-Tip bullets (.30 150gr & 168gr), four different powders at numerous charges, two different primers, everything from 0.050" jump to 0.200" jump and so far have gotten only one group that was barely acceptable (1 MOA).
For reference, Federal Premium with the 165 TSX (Wal-Mart here carries this) shoots 1/2-3/4 MOA from this rifle. I've been able to find handloads that consistently turn in sub-MOA performance from every rifle I've ever loaded for, but am out of tricks on this one.
Anybody been successful getting the E-Tips to shoot well? What did you do to make it happen? I have close to 500 of them and want to be able to use them this fall for elk.
Rifle is a Rem 700 stainless in 30-06, btw. It is bedded into a Ti takeoff stock. Lugs have been lapped & it wears a Zeiss conquest 3-9x40 scope.
Thanks
What do you need a 150 or 165 grain monolithic bullet for in Tennessee? Then why pursue something so vigorously that seems to not be a good idea? Go buy a box of 130 Barnes TTSX bullets and try those, they will kill anything you will run into there. If your going to shoot something bigger try another Barnes bullet, they seem to be stupid simple to get to shoot.

My Sako 300 WSM loves the 150 E-Tips. It will put them into one hole and my best 10 shot group was 1 moa. That was with 68 gr's W760 at 3285 fps average.
Since my magazine box is the limiting factor on O.A.L. I found them to shoot gooder with a deeper seat depth.
If you guys have some 150 E-Tips for sale I am interested.
On the flip side of the bullet testing, this same rifle will shoot 150 AB's with incredible consistency @ 1 moa but NEVER better. It will put its first two 165 AB's siamesed but the velocity is too slow for me @ 2950 fps.
So, the E-Tips get the nod. Have yet to whack anything with them but I will soon. Got lot's of bullet testing medium coming to my feeder. They all have curly tails.
I have a firend I load AB's for in his 30-06 and he has had some spectaular devastation on pigs with them.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.

Who said anything about hunting in TN? Thanks for the info but if you don't have anything constructive to add about a Nosler E-Tip find another thread.
