I don't know if your barrel is slow or not but it is definitely 4" shorter than mine which would make a lot of difference. I'm shooting a Ruger #1B which has a 26" barrel.

I won't do a .270 in a barrel under 24" anymore.
I found that velocity increased 100+fps in my .270 when going from 22" to 24". Different barrels of course so the results are not scientifically valid but Ken Waters found the same 100fps increase in 2" as did JOC. Never found 2" of extra tube to be burdensome. Next one I build will sport 25 or 26 inches of tube. The 22" barrels I've had have never been lacking for speed. Still have a Sako FiberClass that does: 3150-3200 with 130's 2975 with 150's That's about the same as I get with my 24" KS. MM

Nsagam, met a man back in college at that towns premier sporting goods store, his rifle of choice, a 26" 270 AI, now that's something you don't see often, but he was wise to take the free speed, since he did not mind it's length.

MM That may indeed be the case but conversely my 24" barrels have never been lacking in handiness. I'll take the extra velocity every time since I find zero drawback to a 2" longer tube.
