Just for kicks, I recently purchased a box of the .25-06 117g SST Superformance load. I had the opportunity to shoot it yesterday.

The felt recoil and muzzle blast was similar to other 115-120g loads from this rifle. The loads chronographed at 3111 fps from my 25 inch PacNor 3 groove barrel (1:10). The SD of the loads for 10 shots was 23fps.

Here is my target. This is 5 shots at 100 yards.

I havent measured the group yet, but I cant complain about the precision of the load so far. I may even have to buy some of this powder when Hodgdon releases it to the public.

Any thoughts/experiences?

That's a great target. I'm a little disappointed in the velocity though. Quickload seems to think there are a ton of powders that can/should do 3150'ish out of a 25" 25-06. I don't have alot of use for the sst as a hunting bullet. I've tried 270 and 30 cal sst's and they are terrifically explosive on deer sized animals.
I'll be anxious to see what the gmx will do with the superformance loadings as far as accuracy goes. I've played with the 165 gmx in several 30 cal guns and can't get any of them to shoot.
Not trying to be negative..that's great accuracy/performance for normal factory ammo...just not maybe what I think it's hyped up to be?? Also...I have a feeling your gun is probably a tack driver with alot of combo's??

I thought it was funny that the Hornady website lists the velocity of 3110 fps(pretty close to mine). Also, the claimed 100-200 fps velocity is versus "conventional ammunition".

I have no problems getting the same velocity with multiple powders with 115-120g class bullets in this rifle reloading.

I too, am afraid of the SST bullet at those velocities. (Will be using 110g HIB this year).

MY little rem 25-06 mtn rifle with 22" barrel slings 110 Accubonds at 3200 with re22 real accurately. I'm thinking that bullet would probably retain more wt and have a better bc than the 117 sst. So, I guess I won't quit reloading and switch to the superformance stuff. But....for the guy that doesn't reload that is a darn good factory showing.
