Ok, so I've got to go help a family friend out who's husband is deployed to Iraq with the local National Guard outfit. Anyway, she lives on a few acres and has a coyote problem (there are several there and they are eating the dogs and cats, etc.). She has seen them several times, usually just before nightfall.

My buddy and I are going out on Sunday evening to do a little calling - I have a Foxpro 32 sound caller. We'll set up in the haystack with the caller out in front of us maybe 80 yards in a drainage ditch. The yotes are using it as a highway. Anyway, I have a variety of sounds available on the machine, which one should I blow to get their attention? Canine distress or kitten distress - to fake them out and make them think another dog's in the 'hood? Or something like the classic dying jackrabbit? Crows fighting? Any other ideas?

Any help is appreciated. We hope to lay waste to a couple on trip one, and go back in a week or so and try again. We tried a silent ambush about a month ago, but the yotes never showed - I don't know if they busted our scent or were just not in the area at the time. ANyway, we have a good feel for the area and the layout with travel paths, etc.

Many thanks,

Tom

Tom

The most important thing is to approach from downwind and always stay out of sight and hearing. The call is less important but start easy. Just some little squeak as a coyote may be close.

Wellllll it is mating season <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> From a selfish viewpoint I'd love to know how distressed kittens work in that situation. No matter what let us know how things go.
