With regards to scopes and having them cerakoted to match a firearm, help ease my fear of something going south and my scope being destroyed.

I'm assuming it would, but cerakoting a optic from Leupold does void the warranty correct?

A couple years ago, I had the same question. At that point Doug sent the scopes out to another shop that specialized in it for him.

Dawn2Dusk I can't answer for Leupold. I no longer coat scopes however,Jeff at Falcon has the right equipment. Give him a call at 406-892-2507. He will use air cure CeraKote. After the scope is coated if it were mine I would lock down the CeraKote by wiping on Gun Shield. Do this after you remount the scope if you decide to go that way.

Jeff at Falcon has coated two rifles for me that match the Matte leupold finish exactly!

As long as the scope is coated with the ambient cure cerakote, and cured correctly you'll be fine. The same equipment used to paint the barreled actions is used, minus the baking.

For metal prep, the scope should be free of any dirt or oil, and surface prepped lightly with a scotch bite pad to give a little tooth (no sandblasting). Mask all areas not getting coated.

I have done a couple of scopes in Flat Dark Earth cerakote (ambient cure) and they turned out perfect. These were both brand new scopes.

The ambient cure goes on just as thin as the oven cure, so if the scope has any gouges or deep scratches, they will show after coating.

Just make sure you want to coat it because it won't just wipe off with acetone.

Not sure on the warranty issue, definitely call Leupold.

D2D - Check this guy out. http://spradlins.net/scopes.html

I've had him do one of my rifles and will be sending out another along with the Leupold scope, bases, rings that sit on it, shortly.

This is right off his web site: "We are factory recommended by Leupold & Stevens to refinish their scopes. Our finish does not affect your Leupold scope warranty."

He did a fantastic job on the first rifle. (A m70 fwt I had rebarreld to 7x57)
