This idea kind of intrigues me. Many years ago in Australia, a few Omark actions were converted to 7.62x39 (with 0.307" bores) for use at 300yard 'big-bore' competition using the then abundant and extremely cheap military rounds. Where they 'failed' was inaccuracy as a result of widely varying headspace dimensions on the Chinese/Russian/Eastern-Bloc/Winchester/PMC amunition floating about at the time. If set up for one type of ammunition, it would shoot great, but when swapped to another it all fell apart.
Now ... with Lapua brass ... and match quality projectiles in the 117gr range ... I'd be interested to see whether a well built 0.308" bore 7.62x39 rifle could give the 30BR a run for its money. Cheers... Con

PMC 7.62x39 ammo at Natchez It appears to be available as loaded ammo. After recently shooting my CZ carbine in 7.62x39 at a 300 yd steel gong, I have a new respect for the gun and cartridge. While the idea of improving on it's ballistics appeals to me too, I'm pretty content with the original round when loaded with quality components too.
4 out of 5 Great Lakes prefer Michigan.

The PMC brass is MUCh harder than other brands, take the cartridge to a different level on the high end accuracy node.
