Well, there is that.

I'd have done it for sure. I think the shark risk is very minimal or else the regulars wouldn't have doing it. The guy offering was head lifeguard at the state beach; he seemed pretty on top of things and he'd taken me out to catch a couple octopusses (puzzies?) already a different day. I'm a strong swimmer, and, well, you couldn't ask for a more qualified person to swim out past the breakers with, right? So yeah I'd have been geeked for some night lobster diving in paradise.

Grabbing an octopus is friggin' wacky. Bastids grab back!

i know back in the day before we used kayaks to paddle baits out for sharks we used surf boards. I got bumped by bull sharks on more than one occasion. i still do it, but on the kayak. its still unnerving to have a 9-10 ft bull shark swim up next to you, checking ya out.

That would scare me for sure! Closest I've come was canoeing in the Everglades, with the big alligators.

I wouldn't want to be a professional night lobster diver cause the odds might catch up to a guy... but I'm bummed I didn't get to do it once or twice over there.

I'm guessing it'd be about the same feeling as heading into big woods at 4 am, though at least then you have a rifle <g>. I'm a total fish; the water part of a night dive doesn't spook me in the least. The night part might get a bit chippy though.

Jeff you need a custom long range precision speargun for you next trip! I'll make you one of my 7.62x54R power heads that'll take care of any errant tigers or I can do a 7rem or .338win if the need should arise!
