My earlier post has not been edited and it clearly states 243 AI. Still the 243 even without the ackley shoulder (which probably does nothing other than maybe slowing case stretch) will hammer on critters with the correct twist and bullet. I never feel under-gunned with a 243. with 75 plus gr bullets. If barnes would come out with a 6mm monometal 115gr+ bullet with a .6 BC everything else would be obsolete.

I agree my lowly little Rem ADL has probably killed more of my stuff and friends stuff that have used it than any other gun in my arsenal!!! I have an upcoming thread about the 6mm bore which I think will be right up your alley !!!Nice talkin with ya!!....FLEM

The 115Dtac will run 2950fps out of a standard .243 with either Ramshot hunter or H4350. I am using HBN coated slugs and do not see any pressure signs. I doubt the terminal effects of the 115 are any better than the 85TTSX but the external ballistics are a huge upgrade when using the 115 at extended ranges.

I'm a big fan of sectional density as indicator of a bullet being a good big game ( deer) bullet... even over relying on velocity and some premium bullet that will take the higher impact velocity if that presents itself..

While I realize that a .243 (either standard or "improved") can't kill a deer without a premium bullet these days, back in the 1970's I killed a few pickup truck loads of whitetails and mule deer with the 105-grain Speer Hot-Cor.

But only 'cause you was ignorant about the failings of cup & core bullets.

If I scratch a 243 itch I doubt I'll be on shaky ground with a jug of H4350 and a few hundred 95 gr. Bal Tips and 100 gr. Interlocks.

The .243 is my favorite cartridge. I live on a ranch and shoot a lot. I've gone through a bunch of cartridges, and nothing has worked as well as the .243. Everything we've shot has dropped instantly (except for one coyote that made a 50 yard run). We generally use an 87gr. VMax, and switch to the 85gr TSX for deer. Last year my son shot a medium sized mule deer at 300 yards. The TSX smashed the near shoulder, then punched through the shoulder blade on the opposite side and sailed off toward South America.
It's all in the reflexes.
