I have heard a bunch over the last 4 or 5 decades of various products that reduce wear and oil consumption. Also increase horsepower and restore "compression" to a high mileage engine.

So my question is gents, what are your thoughts on the product called RESTORE.

Most of them are snake oils. Wear is wear, cylinder/piston/ring scoring and wear, valve stem to guide wear... you can't fill that stuff in with any chemical.
The only one I've seen work with modest result is Lucas Oil Treatment, and that was in its ability to take an engine with low oil pressure at idle and increase it to a respectable safe level. It's a good friction reducer and viscosity stabilizer, but like all others, can't fill in metal missing from normal wear.

FWIW, I read somewhere that Lucas Oil Treatment increases foaming and foaming is bad news!

I've not seen that in my very limited experience with the stuff. I'm not a big believer in oil additives, especially once an engine is worn and showing all the signs of it. At that point, I've either overhauled the engine, replaced it, or replaced the entire vehicle.

Check www.bobistheoilguy.com for the Lucas foaming issue.

The only time I have ever seen an Oil Additive work, is using the product STP........Yep, that stuff really worked in keeping an engine together and have less friction.

I personally saw the Bradshaw brothers years ago at the dragstrip run for top "Eliminator" and put a case of it in the crank case of a dual engine Chevy draster with 3 cracked cly. yes and they won and the engine stayed together.

All the other crap on the market is just that CRAP in a can or bottle, the real snake oil you betcha.

I knew a guy who dragged and used a 75%/25% mix of ATF and STP in his engines. He didn't win very often, but he got a lot of 2nds and 3rds on a very small budget.

I used Restore in one engine and it did work. My son's first car was a 1970 Chevelle with a 307 and powerglide. We bought it in 1989 from a 68 year old lady who had bought it new. It had original paint and the interior was perfect. We found out after we got it that she hadn't been very good about changing the oil (we found the records). It didn't smoke but 2 spark plugs would foul with oil and it would start missing. I added a can of restore and the fouling ceased. He drove it to high school and work for 2 years. We had to add a can of Restore at every oil change but it did stop the spark plug fouling. I know it won't rebuild a worn out engine but it may help an engine that's not too far gone.

If the king says it works, that's good enough for me right?

(RP)

I've used plenty cans of stp myself over the years in clapped out engines and yes, a viscosity adjuster is one thing, but rebuild in a can? Total BS.
