Hi Guys,
This new forum needs a new post so here goes:

My bushmaster has a tendency to pring double groups w/ my loads. Could it be the loads, rifle, or scope?
The loads are 62gr GI pulled bullets, a case full of Varget( cant remember the weight but it's just slightly compressed) in LC brass.
It has a Hogue free floated handguard
and the scope is a Bushnell 10X mildot in a highrise Armalite scope mount. all are screwed down tight.
Out of a magazine of 20, I'll have 2 very nice tight groups about 1.5" apart.
Any suggestions

Hope it's not the scope! I just bought one for my 16" upper.

Has it done this with any other loads? Have you tried different bullets than the pulled ones? I like to change only one variable at a time and it seems the bullets would be the best place to start here. I'd try different bullets and see what happens. Your gun may just not like that load all that well. Work up whatever you do.

Varget is a good powder but Benchmark and 10X have given me better groups in my AR and Cooper 223. I would think that commercial cases might be a better fit with Varget too, if you want to stick with it, since the military cases lack a bit of capacity. Good luck!

You are right w/ the lack of capacity in mil brass but at the price at the time, I couldn't pass it up. They are just plinking loads. I'll need to try different bullets/brass and start from sctratch, that is, if I can ever find groundhogs in Western Washington. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

How long are you waiting between shots? How long between groups? The barrel could be getting hot and moving a little.
Are you loading all 20 shots into one magazine?

Try again, being consistent with the placement of the forearm in the front rest.

Also,
Feed the cartridges individually from an empty magazine, or go from the top 5 rounds from a fully loaded mag.

If the difference is vetical, you might want to look at waiting 2 Min. between shots fired to eliminate barrel droop.

Then again, it's a battle rifle.

Also.

M855 Ball ammo is not in any way indicative of the rifles potential accuracy, and pulled bullets are subject to stressors that are not present in commercial unfired/unpulled projectiles.

I load and shoot a bunch of surplus/ pulled bullets and have come to expect errata at range.

Load up some Sierra 52gr Match bullets with the same charge, and see what happens.

Minimize the variables.

Curently ya got a truck load!

Hope thishelps!
