From the wild imagination of a young boy. My youngest boy.
We built and started a deer camp in 2007, it was a family venture. Kids were always along as we were swinging hammers building the cabin, laying logs in mud holes to corduroy bad spots on the truck trail, cutting trails, building deer stands etc.
Our youngest boy was actually only 3 when we started the project, hes 6 now.
Somewhere along the line in the whole project he began telling stories of animals that only he could see out in the forest. The first one of these imaginary animals was a critter called a chickenbuck
There were also leopard squirrels, flying bears, swamp squids I dunno, there may have been a few more, hard to keep track of.
I really got a kick out of the imaginative stories though as did the rest of the camp.
One weekend It was just me and the little guy out at camp and we were sitting at a table together talking about the chickenbuck. I had to ask him what it looked like since I had never seen one.
I got out a pencil and a notepad and did my best artists rendering based on his accounts.
This is what we came up with.
That was the original chickenbuck.
Ive had fun with it over the past few years, We named the deer camp camp chickenbuck And 3 years later the little guy still entertains us all with stories that seem to involve 3 main characters. The chickenbuck, the flying bear and the swamp squid.
The 3 critters are always after each other with a sort of rock paper scissors set of basic rules of engagement.
A while back I was having fun with the idea of a chickenbuck that reflected life at camp. This is the guy I came up with.
I have a local printing company working on art proofs for printing t-shirts, can cozies etc right now.
I guess thats kind of the long & short of it.
Just a fun camp name based on an imaginary critter from the mind of a 3 year old.
Does this look like the kind of guy that would just make something like that up?
