Have any of you hunted with both? I have the Ruger and am considering buying a 9422. Any reason not to consider the 9422 as a good carry gun for small game? I had one when I was younger but don't remember ever doing any serious accuracy tests with it. I do remember it was heavy.

The Winchester m9422 was my first rifle.

Bought mine brand new in 1978.

At 6.25 lbs, I do not consider it to be a heavy rifle.

Anyway, out of the box with equal ammo and sight quality, the m9422 will run with any Sporter weight Ruger m77/22 in terms of groups size.

They are very accurate rifles- the full equal of the MArlin m39 rifles in my experience..

The Winchester is much "sweeter" handling and will go up in value over time much better than any Ruger. I have 39a Marlins, too but they don't hold a candle to the smooth action of a 9422. You'll pay more for the Winchester but love it more.

I like them both, but prefer a bolt action for squirrel
hunting.

Hello,

I had one in .22 magnum. I sold it when I left for college at age 20, and I'm still kicking myself 12 years later.

Seems like a very "apples to oranges" comparison to me. They are both excellent rifles - in their own ways.

Yes it is apples to apples..

And, reading the OP here, one sees that the guy likes the Winchester m9422. He is just asking if there was some functional reason (lack of accuracy etc) to go with the m77..

And as I said, none that I can see. If a lever gun suits you, the m94/22 will bag just as much game as a m77/22.

I have a couple, both the mag and lr,, Both have no issues with cyling,,,accuracy is very good for a lever, i can keep 5-6 shots at an inch or so at 100yards,, I like how you can let the hammer down while carring,,,seems a little safer to me, knowing its not cocked.. Ruger makes a good gun, but the WIN. is much better, and will hold its value much better.. They doubled in price allready within the last 4-5 years.. 9422 cant go wrong..

I have two 9422's in 22 mag. I have had both since the late 1970's. One is the XTR with real fancy wood and hardly shot at all. The other is the standard wood. Both are like fine jewels and will go to the boys sooner or later. I would never sell either. Keepers for sure. I paid about $250 for each if my memory serves me well.

Another big fan of the 9422.

We have 3 of them in 22 mag

All 3 straight grip walnut stocks, 2 standard blueing and one yellowboy version.

One is mine and I bought one for each of the boys. The youngest boy doesn't know he has one in the safe yet (he's only 6)

I haven't shot the last one I've purchased yet but the other 2 are very impressive in accuracy.

That all being said, buy both the 9422 & the ruger.

I've got a Ruger 77-17 and a Winchester 94-22Mag.

The Winchester would be the LAST to go....Love that gun!

I own both.. the 10/22 is for the kids to shoot at the range.. to burn ammo up with...

the 94/22 is a hunting rifle.. it has plenty of accuracy...

it shoots groups

the 10/22 shoots patterns..

My 10/22 has only been stolen once; my 94/22M has been stolen twice and it looks like I'll never lose it again. It's gone (along with a really fine piece of factory wood it had. frown )

I hunt with my 94/22; I play with the 10/22 mostly.
