I have a choice of American Rifleman, American Hunter, American Freedom.

Which one did you choose and why?

Thanks.

I enjoy rifles, handguns, shotguns and everything hunting.

I pay the extra $12 or $15 and get both Rifleman and Hunter.

I moved over to American Rifleman a few years ago. I'd rather read about guns than the same article over & over on 'getting the big buck', or whatever.

There has been significant improvements in both magazines in the last year. My SCI chapter meets at NRA Hdq. & last year the editor of the magazines met with us. The budget has been expanded & even several articles by Mule Deer have been included. I expect the magazines to continue to improve. Incidentally, NRA donates free subscriptions to our military in Iraq & Afghanistan & donates 100's of both magazines that we ship to our troops.

I like 1st Freedom because I get other hunting magazines and they all seem to have stories all along the same lines and I can find out stuff on new or updated guns on the Internet.

You should ask for "Troll Boy Illustrated".

What my brother and I did was swap.
He got Hunter and I, Rifleman. Then swapped every couple months.

Dan passed to the Great Hunting Grounds in 2003.
I miss him so much.

If you are a gun looney get the Rifleman. If you'd rather read about hunting, get the Hunter. Simple as that, or as one guy suggested, pay the extra money and get both.

For the first 10 years, or so, of NRA membership, I got the Hunter mag. I switched to the Rifleman when I tired of essentially the same "how to get a 'monster' buck" over and over and over. Much the same reason I stopped subscribing to Outdoor Life, Field and Stream and other such mags. Now, I don't peruse the Rifleman as I used to, either. Maybe it's just me.

About one thumb-through is all I get with AR. Frankly, I have zero interest in antique guns, the guns of the Wherethehellistan Army, the latest wondergizzie pistol or (God help us) the 734th "new" 1911 clone.

About the only feature I faithfully read is "The Armed Citizen."

Yep - that's a pretty good summary. I get AR, dad and brother get AH but the above is about what I really get from it (although I will still read about the 734th "new" 1911 clone smile ).

I get AR but i read a friends AF. Same-same political articles, same armed citizen, which is my favorite part!

Then a bunch of articles about stuff I'm never gonna buy.

Pretty much how I feel, though I haven't switched from AH to AR. When I started out, I got myself a life membership, and the wife and kids 1yr memberships, so we got a couple copies of each.

American Hunter. The Rifleman is great if you like reading about M1 carbines, 1911's and Garands over and over.

I switched to the Hunter and my FIL and I trade when we're done.
