Funny how nearly every advancement in technology is met with an immediate negative response. Must be a law of nature, "For every advancement action there is a knee jerk reaction."

Just wondering out loud how many of you will end up with one of these in a year or two. It's in a rifle loonies nature to try something new is it not?

That being said I am finding myself day dreaming about moving to a remote location, living in a tent without electricity, tv, computers or plumbing.

Simple, (the kiss principle), rocks! That's why my last couple of scopes have been FXII 6 powers. At the same time I can see me "just trying" one of these when they come up on the classifieds. This is an illness!

IMO, the motion sensor coulda been done away with if Leupold had some sort of positive "OFF" stop on the rheostat of their lit scopes.

I love it when I look thru my illuminated reticule nightforce at O'Dark 30 and can see only the illuminated reticule but nothing else...

if you were shooting dark animals where the reticule did not show up so good, that is the place I would want some type of bright dot but if you can't see chitt thru the scope anyway the illuminated reticule is money wasted.

This scope has China written all over it.

So far Leupold grades an F for failure when it comes to electronic gadgets.

try this:

take your NF, cover the objective (or leave the objective scope cap closed), turn on the lit retical, and try sighting on stuff with both eyes open. it can be done.

Calvin, ever had a 6x42 w/German #4 or HD that you could not see the reticle on an animal that you could make out w/your eyes, or binos?

Don't have any illuminated reticles, but I have looked thru a few. The last being a Weaver. Seems to me their possible advantage is not just early and late, but in that they naturally draw the eye to a central aiming point for when things are happening quickly. Much the same as fiber optic open sights. Not saying they are necessary, but I do see where they can be useful.

If durability is a given, then I think they will eventually become more common in use.

I suspect that the optics companies have gone the way of the firearm manufacturers, in that they are not targeting the half a dozen hunters left, but have instead taken the course of providing wanking material for the characters that feel the need to go everywhere in camo clothing and mall creepers.

It must be very entertaining to listen in on the bullsh!t that flies about on the city ranges.....something along the lines of: every one is affiliated with some obscure sneaky-beaky military unit and is a paid up sniper come wet specialist.

Doesn't anyone just have a job and a family life anymore?

I'm all for product refinement and advancements in technology, as long as they they provide some real benefit without hurting durablility or creating excess cost.

I'm a fan of Leupold, but can't see the benefits of the new scopes. Seems more like an answer in search of a question.

I'll take a peep ghost ring sight over a buckhorn in low light and for quick acquisition. Perhaps these illuminated sights are just another evolution of sighting systems. Time will tell.

Addition: Place a fiber optic front along with that ghost ring and I will like it even more.....

I've had a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x50mm in #4 illuminated since they came out. It's been a very durable scope that has served me well. I spent a brief time riding a 300WSM and the last few years on a .270Win.

In all the time I've had this scope I've only used the illuminated dot twice during actual hunts.

The setting can be adjusted so it's very dim and will not "blind" your image.

This rifle is generally used for open areas, fields, clearcuts, logging roads...places where legal daylight is all I've ever needed.

I've developed another point of view about the illuminated optics. I'd rather take additional $$$ the illumination feature cost and put it towards better glass to start with.

If that's what you want, though, then roll with it.

I certainly don't fault Leupold for trying new features....as long as they continue to make and improve on their "classics".

Rumor says the motion sensor in the Delta Point has turned the light off at the wrong time for a few early adapters - I'll wait for at least the next generation on these but it's nice to see the 2-7x33 promoted to what I suppose is a first line scope.

Agreed that the market is not so much hunters as shooters. My only shooting at full dark was coyotes on a white night and no issues with much of anything. Batteries I've experimented with didn't last in a cold soak anyway - maybe a heated battery compartment?

Maybe the variables have reached the stage of transmitting as much light as a fixed power in today's world - they'll have to prove it to me or I'll go with an 8x56 fixed for a moon scope for which I have no use anyway.

Couldn't have said it any better. Last thing I need is to have the battery go dead in my scope and who needs a motion sensor scope?? If a hunter needs motion sensors to hunt with he shouldn't be in the woods.

Price on these gadgets?
