I also prefer matte black scopes on stainless rifles. Same here.... Even though it's not a "walnut/stainless", here is a matte Vortex Viper 2-7x32 mounted on a M70 Classic Stainless .375 H&H. It's using low Talley QR rings and bases.

I like the matte on black but the matte on a stainless walnut doesn't go with the stock or the action....I don't like the stainless barrel with a blue/matte action either. Bruz

About the only thing I stand all S/S furniture upon,is a Walnut Dudelicker 10/22. For some reason it melds.
Other than that, make my base/rings/glass black matte...............

I have a stainless/walnut fwt in 300 WM. No scope on it now but I like the look of matte black scope and mounts with the stainless rifle. Thats how I had my winchester set up. as was mentioned earlier in this thread the silver will no be that close a match betwwen the scope, mounts and rifle. Besides, if you decide to sell the rifle or switch the scope to something else the matte black scope will look good with any rifle finish, wether polished/matte blue or stainless.

My problem with stainless guns and silver scopes is that everyone who makes a stainless gun finishes the metal differently. You end up with different shades of gray, or silver on the rifles. Same with the scopes. You rarely end up with a scope that matches the finish on your rifle. Black finish scopes look good on everything.

I have a M77 that came out of the box in SS/SYN & I dropped a matte scope on it. But I just picked up a walnut stock for it & the matte just doesn't look right with the all brown wood. At least a Rem CDL has the black forearm tip but mine is brown...period. I think I'm going to top mine in silver once I'm done with the bedding job.

My featherweight ss/walnut 6.5x55 has stainless bases, rings, and VX II 3-9x 40. If I were to do it over, I might put matte bases and rings on it to break it up a little. The Leupold scope matches the stainless gun pretty close, but with the scope, mounts, barrel all being silver you can notice the differences in color a little more.

JMR Of course you're correct BUT a matte scope doesn't even come close to matching anything.....don't see how that's the answer.. Robert

DH,
I like how you weighted that Hoppes rest on the cheap. Thanks. Works a lot better now with the added weight.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

It is wearing a Shilen barrel and has shot 1 groups with every 200 or 225 gr. bullet that I have poked through it. It is honestly a real shooterCP.

Guess I'm not the color coordinated type guy. I have a blued receiver on an old Featherlite with a stainless Hart bbl, and a gloss 2.5x8 Leupold sitting on it. Seeing as it shoots sub 1/2' groups with boring regularity, it's beautiful to my eyes.
I have mixed & matched scopes on all most all my rifles, and just dont give a hoot what color they are as long as they all shoot to point of aim.
Respects,
Richard
