Pick. I think you'd like a scout scope set up. Up front on the barrel, they are very out of the way. They add weight to a light barrel. You can look around them easily. The crosshairs just print on your target.
Last I heard, Burris made a 1.5 X, as well as a 2.7X. I found the 2.7X Burris pretty good. Leopold's scout is a little better optically, based on my limited examination. It's a 2.3X scope. E

Ken or others
Have you any experience with the J.C. Higgins 2.5x scope with non-centering reticle? If it has a reputation for durability I may slap one on my Guide Gun.

E,

I really do not like the scout setup. It throws the balance way off and second I have taught myself to shoot with both eyes open, even with a setting at 4x. In that situation I like a scope to present a clean sight picture with no visable ring. It took me a while to figure out how to adjust the dipoter (sp?) so the eye lining up behind the scope did not try and change focal point.

After several years like this I find that I shoot much better in hunting situations and have much better confindence and take a lot less time to get to targert. The scout set up just does not do it for me. I understand why J. Cooper wanted it, but my day of beind a forward scout in anybodys mil operation are long past. I want balance and sight picture. But thanks for the thought.

p.s. you will have to get some nice digital photos of that 25-284 of yours and let us at the fire see what you have been talking about.

I see that Nikon is offering a 1x20mm Black Powder scope this year. I don't know yet if it is a 1 inch tube. It does have a plex reticle.
It could be just the thing for those of us who use irons, but just don't see'em as well as we used to.
