I've always preferred the 280 to the 270 since I got my first in '67. But I really preferred it just because it was different, not because of some illusion that it was really better. The two cartridges are way too close for there to be any significant difference. Given similar bullet designs, you could use either one for the rest of your life and never see any difference in on-game performance.

Agreed. But, you would never see a 270 in my safe or in my hands for that matter. I dislike them due strictly to two reasons: a) their popularity to the exclusion of all others disgusts me. Same goes for the 30-06. b) we won't discuss.

Yea! Popularity is the best reason to reject a great caliber.

The .30-06 is the best cartridge ever except perhaps the .22LR and the .375H&H. The .270 is the next after the .30-06. The 7mms suck eggs.

Believe that to be a 26" barrel.

In the end, I don't care what it says. I'm not running a 280 of any design that fast. You're free to do as you wish.

The diameter difference is moot, but the BC difference isn't.

Therein lies the rub...................

BC don't mean nothing. Unless you are a gun hack selling yourself to the bullet makers.

In all the 280's I've had & loaded for (6), that's not a believable velocity number IMO. If there's a powder that produces better velocity than RL-22 with >140 grain bullets in the 280, I've not found it & I've not seen better than around 2880-2890 with 160 grain bullets & have re-usable brass & acceptable CH expansion.......I'd be betting a lot of money that you are WAAAAAAAY over pressure, if in fact, you really are getting that velocity at all. My PACT has never misled me either..........

But then, I've never seen a 150 Partition in 277" fail on elk either

Montana Man, your innuendo that I am either a liar, or simply dont know what Im talking about, is simply idiotic. Ive been reloading for over 50 years, and use a Ohler 35P to chrono & test every one of my loadings.

The fact that none of your .280 Rems have been able to reach the velocity I getting, while using the 160 gr Noslers, speaks more of your lack of testing (or possibly lack of knowledge).

By the way, there are no high pressure signs with my loadings.

If you are still confused about how I am obtaining this velocity, start working up a load using H4831. And, should you still be confused, take a look at P.O. Ackleys Pocket Manual for Shooters & Reloaders. Page 91 should certainly ease that nagging headache and answer any other questions you might have about my load.

Perhaps perusing this old manual will ease that overworked imagination of yours.

Sorry about this load being suspect with a 22 bbl, but it is what it is!!!!!!!!!

Respects,

Richard

I find it hard to believe anyone can be as consistently stupid as Swampy but he may make a believer of me.

You guys actually believe that BC means anything in the game field? You've read too many glossy magazine ads.

Probably don't matter in the land of golf carts and 8yr old spikes but some of us don't reside on the Never land ranch

BC is what factors how/when a boolit arrives and how much Engleesh it takes to get there.

I've never killed a Critter less BC and not all BC's are equal, nor are all boolits.

Actually shooting,do unveil much...you should yank a trigger some day..................
